Using incense to repel the devils by Sheik bin Baz http://www.binbaz.org.sa/index.php?pg=mat&type=fatawa&id=3470 Translated by Rasheed Barbee Q: Some of the people use incense ( )بخورthat is sold by the oil salesmen it is called ()نقض that which repels; they say that it keeps the devils away. A: I don’t know of any basis in the Islamic legislation for this action; and it is obligatory to leave it. It is from the fairytales that have no basis, and the only way the devils are repelled is by increase the remembrance of Allah and reading the Koran and seeking refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil that He created. And it has been authenticated from the Prophet peace and blessings are upon him that he said, ‘Whoever stops to rest at a place and says, ‘I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of that which He has created’, will not be harmed until he leaves that place. And a man said to him, oh Messenger of Allah I was stung by a scorpion last night; so the Prophet peace and blessings are upon him said, ‘If you would have said, I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil He created it would not have harmed you’. And the Prophet, peace and blessings are upon him said, ‘Whoever says when the morning comes, ‘In the name of Allah with Whose name nothing is harmed on earth nor in heaven, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing’, three times will not be harmed by anything until the evening, and whoever says it in the evening will not be harmed by anything until the morning.
