(Note: As to any facts requested in this question, please omit any information protected by the attorney-client privilege.) During my legal career I have dedicated myself to serving victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and child abuse. In this capacity, I have worked tirelessly to ensure that the criminal justice system functions appropriately to serve these vulnerable populations. As part of this commitment, I was responsible for initiating a domestic violence protocol between the Denver District Attorney's Office and the Denver Police Department. This 17

protocol standardized the investigative methods and resource referrals to victims to ensure that each victim was treated appropriately. Additionally, I spearheaded a protocol between the Denver District Attorney's Office, Denver Police Department, Denver Human Services, Denver Health and Hospitals and non-profit organizations to standardize and ensure the age appropriate treatment of child victims and witnesses in the court system. This protocol ensured a number of safeguards for children including limiting the number of interviews conducted with a child by professionals in the system, ensuring an immediate medical examination for every child where medically needed and development of a forensic interviewing program. In addition to these activities, I worked tirelessly to ensure that lawyers and other professionals within the system learned to effectively serve victims impacted by these crimes. To this end, I have taught extensively to rural and outside jurisdictions about the law and dynamics involved in the prosecution of child abuse and domestic violence CrImes. 17. In connection with the nomination process, I have consulted with the Office of Government Ethics and the Department of Justice's designated agency ethics official to identify potential conflicts of interest. Any potential conflict of interest will be resolved in accordance with the terms of an ethics agreement that I have entered into with the Department's designated agency ethics official. b. Explain how you will resolve any potential conflict of interest, including the procedure you will follow in determining these areas of concern. In the event of a potential conflict of interest, I will consult with the ethics officials for the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, Department of Justice. 23. Pro Bono Work: An ethical consideration under Canon 2 of the American Bar Association's Code of Professional Responsibility calls for "every lawyer, regardless of professional prominence or professional workload, to find some time to participate in serving the disadvantaged." Describe what you have done to fulfill these responsibilities, listing specific instances and the amount of time devoted to each. If you are not an attorney, please use this opportunity to report significant charitable and volunteer work you may have done. Throughout my career as both a state and a federal prosecutor I have developed substantial expertise in the investigation and prosecution of domestic violence, child abuse and sexual abuse crimes. I have spent hundreds of hours teaching about these issues to law students, police officers, prosecutors, guardian ad litems, CAS A workers, human service workers, medical professionals, victims groups and other non-profit organizations tasked with these specific issue areas. Additionally, because of my extensive trial experience I have served as a trial technique instructor for organizations such as the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA). All of these lectures have focused on the dynamics of abuse, trial skills necessary to successfully prosecute these cases and the law in these areas. I have always taught to professionals in the public sector and specifically within the child welfare system. I have had a policy to never receive payment associated with my lecture time due to my commitment of trying to improve the quality of responses for victims of child abuse and domestic violence. This work continues to serve as my commitment to pro bono service. These lectures are listed in section 12(d) of this application.
