Mumbai’s First and Favorite Night Run! Conceptualized and organized by UACTIV, in support of the Akshara Center, the 3rd edition of “Urban Feet – Night Run For Safety” is a platform for all aspiring runners and fitness enthusiasts to advance social causes such as safety, empowerment & equality with an effort to "take back the night" and detach taboo's associated with the same. This year, every runner runs as a #VoiceOnTheStreet - a community initiative that advances safety of civilians in public spaces. Our objective is to bring awareness to how we (women, children and men) can be more conscious of making public spaces safer for ourselves and others - be it in public spaces or on roads - and how this consciousness can makes us a happier, stronger and more sustainable community. Being a Voice - gives each of us a responsibility to stand up & speak up for safety, and act in support of those who are taken advantage of. The run sees participation from 150+ children from the Akshara Center, the Mumbai Police as well as have had celebrities and influencers such as Rahul Bose, Shabana Azmi, Sara Ali Khan, Arjun Kanungo, Monica Dogra, Yasmin Karachiwala, Cindy Jourdain, etc. Last year we had 1000+ participants. To advance this effort, we support Akshara Centre via this initiative to raise funds for their efforts to support safety of women and children from less privileged backgrounds. A fixed amount of every ticket sold will be donated towards their cause. This run is supported by Gulf Oil India - a brand which has made its mission to bring awareness and promote road safety of two-wheeler riders in our cities. And Save The Children India – a non-profit organization committed to preventing exploitation and all other forms of discrimination of women and children through its many safety, health, vocational and education programs. Event Date: 16th February, 2019 Time: 10pm Start Point: Save The Children India, Bandra Kurla Complex Distance: 6km
About UACTIV: A mobile app based social networking and discovery platform for all sports and fitness enthusiasts. India’s largest platform of its kind, funded by the Hinduja Group and Thinqbate. The UACTIV App takes a community based approach to make “sports & fitness” more social, engaging, convenient and experiential for users. We use technology to empower people to connect with one another and build relationships based on their sport and fitness interest. About Akshara Center: The Mumbai-based Akshara Centre grew as result of the contemporary Indian women’s movement of the 1980s, which primarily campaigned against violence against women. The organisation was established in 1995 as a resource centre, at a time when women’s rights were gaining momentum in society and there was a rising need for material from a gender perspective. Their initial goal was to educate both women and youth on the subject of women abuse so as to rid society off the same. The organisation also supports girls in completing their higher education, especially those who need to pay for the same themselves. Their vision is to establish a gender just and violence free society.
