Obstacles and Solutions A.  Read each obstacle below to your partner.  Your partner must come up  with a solution for each obstacle.   Example:   You: Partner:   You:

My car broke down. You could buy a new car. Thanks, that’s a good idea! or I can’t do that because  I don’t have any money.

1.  My son wants to go to college but his grades are bad because he won’t do his homework. 2.  I want to learn English but all the ESL classes here are full. 3.  I need to make more money but my boss won’t give me a raise. 4.  I want to learn how to use a computer but I don’t have enough money to buy one.

B. Now switch.  Your partner will read each obstacle below and you must give  him or her a solution. 1.  My mother is very sick but there are no good doctors in our city. 2.  I want to start my own business but don’t know the procedures I need to follow here in the  United States. 3.  My wife wants to work but if she goes back to work, who will take care of our children? 4.  My parents are too old to take care of themselves.
