Hastings, In Corel’s company information we found a website with the information that you are President and General Manager of the Digital Media activity within Corel. The reason why we adress this letter now especially to you, is the uncertainty of this moment and our great concern about the future of the Ulead Media StudioPro software. I write we since I represent the Dutch Ulead-User-Group. This group exists already for more than a decade, all members are very actif in their own video-clubs, all over the country. Since we all “produce” in the video world on a high quality-level, you can see us as “pro-sumers”, consequently working with video-editing software of Ulead that can meet the standards we need. Already for about 10 years we therefore work with MediaStudio Pro. Our members who joined our group in the very beginning, even worked with the version MSP 2.5 where the output was still on S-VHS. All Ulead-developments have been applied since then, every group-member is working now with MSP 8 and MovieFactory 6. So far our introduction to you but not without a special copy out of the minutes of a groupmeeting we had in the fall of 2007. We all had the feeling that Corel’s acquisition of Ulead could work out very beneficial for Ulead-users. For, this acquisition in our opinion, offered a substantial added value to the original Ulead-activities in the digital media market, thanks to new blood and capital available for an upgrade of Ulead-software. We also had the feeling that through this aquisition, Ulead’s “high-end” software like MediaStudio Pro, might come into the marketing tools of a company that has proven to be capable of marketing “high-end” software. You gave prove of that idea with what you achieved in the past with Corel Draw Graphics Suite and Corel Painter and Corel Designer. It’s our impression however that Corel is concentrating now only on the consumer market for NLE software and the interests of the prosumer market seem to be neglected totally. We come to that conclusion, looking to your flash-marketing of VideoStudio on one side and the total radio-silence on the other hand, when it comes to Media StudioPro and the uncertainty for all MSP users in the world. We are convinced that the capital investment Corel made in the aquisition of Media StudioPro, does not justify the damage to the Ulead marketshare by offering “prosumers” now a € 60,- tool where the timeline is almost a replica of the timeline in the “Edit-Room” of MovieFactory6 and “dual-view” is impossible ! Prosumers are no longer on the “Movie Maker” level, you know. It’s also somewhat naive to assume that for instance a film of the International Tallship Race and Show “Sail Amsterdam”, the footage was taken with 20 camera’s and succesfully edited in MSP, could have been produced in VideoStudio! We wonder whether you are informed about all posts in the thread, opened by Tobie Openshaw in the Corel User to User Board, on nov 13 2007 as follows: So gang - here's your chance: If you were told that there was a POSSIBILITY of a super-duper "Prosumer" version of Ulead VideoStudio with a bunch of MSP features rolled into it, ... what features would you want in there, in order of priority? What are the "cannot live without" stuff, what are the "that would be nice to have" stuff? Let's hear it from the real users out there. Best regards

We were told that Tobie Openshaw is your marketing manager of the former Ulead range of products now being part of Corel. The thread, he started in the Corel forum with his above mentioned suggestion, has the highest number of replies at the moment. This really indicates that there is a great and worldwide concern about the future of Media StudioPro! We, as the D.U.U.G. as well as many other worldwide MSP-users have given full support to Tobie’s question and paid our contribution, assuming that Corel’s intention was serious. The actual situation however is a total radio-silence, in spite of statements of Tobie Openshaw to be back with further information on this subject. We now put our question to you, the answer being crucial to us since we have to know whether there is a future for us in Corel/Ulead “high-end” software or not, looking to the actual developments in the field of editing software we have to follow: Are we right in the assumption that a development of MSP-like software for the prosumer market is going on at Corel but the decision about Blue Ray has delayed further market information until now, or ………is Media StudioPro really dead and Corel decided for the incredible step to stay out of the Prosumer market of NLE software? Your comments on “the state of the art” at Corel, when it comes to the Ulead product Media StudioPro or it’s successor will be highly appreciated; please do make an end to the situation of radio silence and inform your ex-MSP customers whether Corel will be of interest to us, or is it “over and out”. Onderwerp: De toekomst van Corel in “ high-end” NLE software Geachte heer Hastings, In Corel's bedrijfsinformatie vonden we een website met de gegevens dat u president en General Manager van de Digital Media-activiteit binnen Corel bent. De reden waarom wij deze brief nu in het bijzonder aan u sturen, is de onzekerheid van dit moment en onze grote bezorgdheid over de toekomst van de Ulead Media StudioPro software. Ik schrijf we omdat ik de Nederlandse Ulead-User-Group vertegenwoordig. Deze groep bestaat al meer dan tien jaar, alle leden zijn zeer ACTIEF in hun eigen video-clubs, over het hele land. Aangezien we allemaal "produceren" voor een kwalitatief hoog niveau in de video wereld, kunt u ons zien ons als "pro-sumers", dus het werken met video-editing software van Ulead dat kan voldoen aan de normen die we nodig hebben. Al zo'n 10 jaar werken we daarom met MediaStudio Pro. Onze leden die zich vanaf het prille begin bij de groep aansloten, werkten zelfs met MSP-versie 2.5, toen de output nog op S-VHS was. Alle Uleadontwikkelingen zijn sindsdien gevolgd en elk groepslid is nu actief met MSP 8 en MovieFactory 6. Tot zover onze kennismaking met u, maar niet zonder een speciale kopie van de notulen van een groepsvergadering, die hadden we in de herfst van 2007. We hadden allemaal het gevoel dat de overname van Ulead door Corel gunstig zou kunnen werken voor Ulead-gebruikers. Want deze acquisitie bood, in onze ogen, een aanzienlijke toegevoegde waarde voor de oorspronkelijke Uleadactiviteiten in het digitale media-markt, dankzij nieuw bloed en beschikbaar kapitaal voor een upgrades van Ulead-software. We hadden ook het gevoel dat door deze overname, Ulead's "high-end"-software als MediaStudio Pro, wellicht in de marketing tools van een bedrijf is gekomen, dat heeft bewezen "high-end" software te kunnen afzetten. U versterkte dat idee door wat u in het verleden heeft bereikt met Corel Draw Graphics Suite en Corel Painter en Corel Designer. Wij hebben nu echter de indruk dat Corel zich alleen te concentreert op de consumenten markt voor NLE software en de belangen van de prosumer markt volkomen lijkt te worden veronachtzamen. Wij komen tot die conclusie, kijkend naar uw flash-marketing van VideoStudio aan de ene kant en de totale radio-stilte aan de andere kant, als het gaat om de Media StudioPro en de onzekerheid voor alle MSP-gebruikers in de wereld. Wij zijn ervan overtuigd dat de kapitaalinvesteringen van Corel gemaakt bij het verwerven van Media StudioPro, de schade aan de Ulead marktaandeel niet rechtvaardigt door het aanbieden aan "prosumers" van nu € 60, - gereedschap waarvan de tijdbalk bijna een replica is van de tijdbalk in de "Edit-Room" van MovieFactory6 en "dual-view" onmogelijk is! Prosumers zijn niet langer op de "Movie Maker"-niveau, weet u. Het is ook een beetje naïef om te veronderstellen dat bijvoorbeeld een film van de Internationale Tallship Race en Show "Sail Amsterdam", waarvan de beelden zijn opgenomen met 20 camera's en met succes bewerkt in MSP, had kunnen worden geproduceerd in VideoStudio! Wij vragen ons af of u worden geïnformeerd over alle berichten in de thread, geopend door Tobie Openshaw in het Corel “User to User” Comitee, op 13 november 2007 zoals volgt: Dus mensen - hier is jullie kans: Als jullie te horen kregen dat er super-duper "Prosumer" versie van functies er in verwerkt ... welke volgorde van prioriteit? Met vriendelijke groet Tobie Openshaw We hebben gehoord dat Tobie Openshaw uw marketing manager is van het voormalige scala van Ulead producten die nu deel uitmaken van Corel. De thread, die begonnen is in de Corel-forum met zijn bovengenoemde suggestie, heeft het hoogste aantal reacties op dit moment. Dit geeft echt aan, dat er een grote en wereldwijde bezorgdheid is over de toekomst van Media StudioPro! Wij, als de D.U.U.G. net als vele andere wereldwijde MSPgebruikers gaven volledige steun aan de vraag van Tobie en hebben onze bijdrage geleverd, in de veronderstelling dat Corel's bedoeling serieus was. De feitelijke situatie is echter een totale radio-stilte, in tegenstelling tot de verklaringen van Tobie Openshaw weer terug te komen met verdere informatie over dit onderwerp. We leggen nu onze vraag aan u voor. Het antwoord is van vitaal belang voor ons omdat we moeten weten of er een toekomst voor ons in Corel / Ulead "high-end"-software of niet, kijkend naar de huidige ontwikkelingen op het gebied van editing software we moeten volgen: Zijn wij in de goede veronderstelling dat een ontwikkeling van de MSPachtige software voor de prosumer markt zal doorgaan bij Corel, maar de beslissing over de Blue Ray verdere marktintegratie informatie tot nu toe heeft vertraagd, of ... ... ... is Media StudioPro echt dood en heeft Corel besloten voor de ongelooflijke stap om weg te blijven van de prosumer markt van NLE-software? Uw uitleg over de "state of the art" in Corel, als het gaat om het product Ulead Media StudioPro of zijn opvolger zullen zeer worden gewaardeerd. Maak alstublieft een einde aan de situatie van radiostilte en informeer uw exMSP klanten of Corel geinteresseerd is in ons, of is het "over en uit". De MSP-wereld wacht nu op uw antwoord op deze brief die naar u is verzonden in uw kantoor in Ottawa alsook aan de Corel User Bestuur en de MUG-SWgroep.
