12. A student carried out the following experiment to prepare copper(II) sulphate crystals, CuSO4·5H2O. 100 cm3 of 2 M sulphuric acid was first diluted to 250.0 cm3 with distilled water. Excess copper(II) carbonate was added to 50 cm3 of the diluted acid in a beaker. After the reaction, the mixture was filtered and the filtrate was warmed until a saturated solution was obtained. The solution was allowed to cool. After a day, the crystals formed were filtered off, washed and dried. (a)
