THE TRIPLE HELIX INC. MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY CHAPTER INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SCIENCE, SOCIETY AND LAW

Publication Policy A. Requirements for publication (i).

(ii). (iii). (iv).

(v). (vi).

(vii). (viii).

The Triple Helix (‘TTH’) encourages the submission of articles by undergraduates concerning the interdisciplinary implications of significant scientific developments in several styles, including analytical and opinion articles, interviews with prominent academics, or reviews and summaries of science-related news and events. Articles which focus solely on the legal, social, ethical, political, or economic aspect of the issue to the detriment of scientific discussion are not acceptable. Articles should be authored by undergraduate students at the University of Melbourne. However, work by post-graduate students may also be considered on a case-by-case basis. Where the article has been authored by more than one writer, the submitting writer is responsible for ensuring that all co-writers have agreed on the content of the article and the publication of the article. Articles proposed and submitted must be original and innovative work, which have not been previously published or submitted to another publication. This does not include reports submitted for academic purposes which are acceptable submissions conditional upon conformity with other publishing requirements of TTH. Writers should bear in mind that articles published in TTH may have an international circulation and should thus ensure that the context of the discussion in the submitted article is clearly explained. Articles submitted must be factually accurate. Writers bear primary responsibility for ensuring the accuracy, completeness and correct presentation of all material in the main article, its reference lists, and bibliographies. If plagiarism or substantial factual inaccuracy is detected in any stage of the editorial process, TTH reserves the right not to publish a submitted article. Articles submitted must comply with the various style, format, and citation rules found in this guide, and major drafts must be submitted at the various deadlines set in the attached timeline. TTH reserves the right not publish a submitted article that persistently fails to comply with rules or deadlines.

B. Figures and Graphics (i). (ii).

Writers are encouraged to submit any figures or graphics which supplement and enhance the readers’ understanding their article. Writers are responsible for ensuring that they have the right to use such figures or graphics in their article. Writers must obtain and provide to the TTH editorial team all necessary permissions to publish in print and electronic form any copyrighted work.

C. Faculty Review (i). (ii).

All articles submitted to TTH are subject to a Faculty Review process whereby submitted articles are reviewed by appropriate Faculty Advisors. Writers are encouraged to provide TTH with potential Faculty members proficient in the areas covered by the writer’s article.

D. Copyright (i).

(ii).

(iii).

Once a submitted article has been accepted for publication in TTH, the writer hereby assigns copyright in the submitted article to The Triple Helix, Inc, and undertakes to do and execute all things as reasonably requested by The Triple Helix, Inc, to enable The Triple Helix, Inc to obtain, perfect, assert, enforce or defend its interests and rights in the writer’s article. Articles accepted for publication in TTH cannot be reproduced in any other publication or medium without express written consent of The Triple Helix, Inc. However such consent will not be unreasonably withheld. Articles republished with the permission of The Triple Helix, Inc, must indicate and acknowledge TTH as the original place of publication. By signing this Policy, the writer warrants that the submitted article does not infringe another’s rights, including copyright and rights to privacy; is not libellous or obscene, and the writer has the right to assign copyright in the article to The Triple Helix, Inc.
