Migration, Migration, nonnon-refoulement, Eart’s Citizenship COVER: NO IT’S NOT PHOTOSHOP. THIS IS REAL STUFF. IT’S A ROAD SIGN ON SAN DIEGO FREEWAYS. DRIVERS ARE ALERTED TO POSSIBLE MIGRANTS RUNNING ACROSS TRAFFIC LANES, LOOKING FOR EL NORTE. BUT, WAIT A MOMENT…THE TERM “PROHIBIDO” IS NOT THE ENGLISH FOR “CAUTION”. SO WHAT? ACTUALLY, THIS *PROHIBIDO* SIGN TELLS MIGRANTS THAT IT IS *FORBIDDEN* TO RUN ACROSS TRAFFIC LANES (AND US BORDERS?) THIS ROAD SIGN REPRESENTS CONTEMPORARY WORLD: WE ARE WALLED IN, BARRICATED TO DEFEND OUR RICH PROPERTIES & LIFESTYLE FROM CROWDS OF STARVING, DESPERATE, HUMAN BEINGS. THEY ARE CITIZENS OF OTHER COUNTRIES, TRYING TO FIND A BETTER LIFE AND HAPPINESS FOR THEIR FAMILIES. SOUNDS FAMILIAR? NATURALLY, BECAUSE WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS. I THINK THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF ROAD SIGNS THAT HELPS HUMANKIND TO MAKE PROGRESS ON ITS PATH. THIS PROHIBIDO SIGN IS LEADING ALL OF US ASTRAY. This is a 21st Century Exodus
Physical examination of female immigrants at Ellis Island, New York City 1911

"In Memoriam" His name was Moammed Sceab descendant of nomadic emires he took his life because he had no Fatherland He loved France and changed his name he was Marcel but he was not French and did no longer know how to live in the tent of his people where one listens to the sing-song of the Koran whilst relishing coffee and he did not know how to melt the song of his leaving I accompanied him together with the lady owner of the hotel where we lived in Paris at number 5 rue des Carmes a withered down-sloaping alley He rests in the churchyard of Ivry a suburb which always seems to be in a day of a decomposed wildelife and maybe only I still know that he lived

Riposa nel camposanto d’Ivry sobborgo che pare sempre in una giornata di una decomposta fiera E forse io solo so ancora che visse
