e- l earning market res earch 200 3 APEL (The Spanish Association of e-learning providers) , presented in January 2003 a market research on the state of e-learning. The figures on the success of the experiences were not very optimistic The weak points signalled that one of the most outstanding facts was the lack of professional elearning trainers. Based upon the report conclusions FASE.net submitted two projects under the Leonardo da Vinci Programme.

Why? The new technologies applied to training have proved to be very useful but at the same time require previous technical training and practical knowledge. Most trainers lack the fundamental knowhow and the knowledge of the resources at their hand
Concept The project is meant to be a helpful tool for training elearning content designers

LEARNING BY DOING: Practical rather than theoretical.
BABELIA can also be used for traditional classes and blended learning:
a database of language teaching recourses organized per language, level (according to the ECCRFL) and type of resources (video recording, exercises, listening, etc) You can use this for your daily classes as well as for your on-line.
Library of good practices in on-line language learning. A forum of professionals where to discuss your ideas and exchange of information with colleagues in other countries with similar experiences. Directory of useful links in your profession.

More than a hundred Language trainers from the 9 participant countries joined the pilot testing. The evaluation of the results were a success

present both the project results are being used as part of contents in vocational training in the different participating institutions.
