Tips for getting a job at the DC Public Library Fill out the application COMPLETELY.

Don’t leave any question unanswered, or any space blank. If the space doesn’t apply to you, write “N/A”. And remember you need TWO letters of recommendation.

Remember to include your GPA.

It really helps if you also include a copy of your HS transcript. If you’re in a GED program, include the name of the program, and the contact information for one of the program staff.

Write a resumé.

There’s a space for you to write information about skills, qualifications, volunteer experience, extracurricular activities, etc. This is the part of the application that is MOST IMPORTANT. You can write in this space, but it’s better if you type (and proofread!) a resume, instead.

Include all of your work experience.

Even if you’ve just had summer jobs, or done babysitting; or even if you’ve only volunteered and never worked for money. That all counts as work experience.

If you’ve ever worked or volunteered at a Library, tell us!

That’s probably the best experience that you can have for this job. Don’t assume that we’ll automatically know that you worked here. We won’t know unless you tell us.
