A Guide to Dance Styles and Classes
Ballet Ballet for pleasure, Ballet for the more serious-minded. This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer for everyone. Ballet has a technique which is the foundation of all dance. Pupils will be given the opportunity to take Ballet examinations with the I.D.T.A. Theatre Craft This most exciting dance form encompasses the wide spectrum of productions that are Musical Theatre. Shows like Grease, My Fair Lady, Bombay Dreams, The Lion King etc all diverse styles but all embraced by the Theatre Craft Title. A dance form for theatrical performance, preparing the body physically through exercise and stimulating artistic ability through dance movement, improvisation and interpretation of music. The use of hand props, make up and much more - it provides all the 'must have' qualities for today's amateur and professional dancer. Pupils will be given the opportunity to take theatre craft examinations with the I.D.T.A. Tap Tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. Tap is a gentle, rhythmical and enjoyable way to keep fit! Tap classes take place alongside theatre classes. Pupils will be given the opportunity to take tap examinations with the I.D.T.A. Popsteps Everyone stands in front of the TV to copy their favourite pop star. Well now you can learn the steps properly! Popsteps is fast, fun and furious – learn it and you will never sit still again when your favourite pop tune comes on! Pupils will be given the opportunity to take freestyle examinations with the I.D.T.A. Freestyle Freestyle is modern, funky and energetic. From the moment John Travolta stepped onto the dance floor in the 1970s in the film 'Saturday Night Fever', everyone's been joining in the fun. Freestyle has no preset sequence of moves, it just depends where the music takes you. It's self-expressive, diverse and a dance for all ages. Pupils will be given the opportunity to take freestyle examinations with the I.D.T.A. First Steps Dance Programme First Steps is a creative dance programme. The programme has been developed for ages 2-7 years and is in two levels. First Steps Level 1 Level 1 is for all dancers age 2-3 years. It is an introduction to dance and movement.
