Bayou Liberty Friday, April 27, 2007

Sandra Pichon The Bayou Liberty Civic Center held its first event for the community since Hurricane Katrina by resuming its annual Easter Egg Hunt. Winners were Tristan Chappetta in the 1- to 2-yearolds age group; Colin Harvard for the 3-4 year-olds; Hannah Brandt, 5-6 year-olds; William McBride 7-8 year-olds;, and Kody Leebrick, 9-10 year-olds. The children all received Easter baskets and enjoyed refreshments after the hunt. St. Genevieve Church was recently honored with a special visit from Monsignor Bernardito Azuza, who is the Holy Father's representative to the United Nations. Monsignor Azuza was the guest concelebrant at the celebration of the Paschal Triduum, and celebrated the Mass of the Lord's Supper and the Ritual of the Washing of Feet on Holy Thursday evening and the Celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday. He also served as homilist for all Easter Masses. "It was such an honor for us to have Monsignor Azuza, a church dignitary from the Vatican, to celebrate Holy Week with us," the Rev. Roel Lungay said. Azuza told parishioners he was "happy to celebrate the holiest three days of the church with St. Genevieve, especially in light of the ordeal you have been through with the hurricane." He rejoiced in how the faith of the people throughout the area has kept them strong through all the experiences of rebuilding, especially the resolve to rebuild St. Genevieve's new church.
