WELCOME to the Thriving Musician Summit

This event is one of my favorites of the entire year! The environment is simply electrifying... an entire campus filled with musicians, techs, worship leaders, and others just like you; people with the same heart and purpose... to be all that God created us to be for His glory. We only get one shot at this life, so let’s all make the most of what God has given to us. As church leaders, I believe we carry the responsibility to provide opportunities for those we lead in ministry to grow and develop, both in technical skill, as well as spiritually. This is discipleship, plain and simple.

In my humble opinion, the Thriving Musician Summit, produced by Bruce and Matt of CMS Productions, provides the best training and inspiration for Christian musicians that you can find in a conference setting. This is why I invited them to partner with myself and Thriving Churches International so that we could bring this conference to Northern California. The last two years have been amazing. This year will be even better! Our hope is that this event will recharge your spiritual batteries, help you to get inspired as well as develop and refine your skills. Linc

Lincoln Brewster / www.lincolnbrewster.com A love and natural gift for the guitar landed Brewster a gig with mainstream rocker Steve Perry (Journey) and led to offers from mainstream rock labels all before he was 21. But Brewster had made a commitment to Christ in his late teens, and instead took a position at his local church as a sound technician. He remained faithful at that church, eventually taking on youth leadership and worship leadership responsibilities. Several years later, he crossed paths with Vertical music, part of Integrity Music Group in Mobile, AL, finding a label home that allowed him to record the modern, rock-tinged worship for which he has become known. In addition to his role as worship leader each Sunday in his home church at Bayside, Brewster is also serving as a worship music instructor at various worship conferences throughout the country.

Paul Baloche / www.leadworship.com Paul Baloche has written some of this generation’s most compelling worship songs. He states, “I’ve realized the value of creating personal worship times. Even though I teach worship, read about it, and sing about it,” says Baloche. “It’s like prayer. We can talk about prayer, go to prayer seminars, but there comes a time where we need to just “DO IT”. We were created for His pleasure. We were created for relationship with the living God. That’s the reality.” For Baloche, living in that reality has inspired him to write some of the most powerful worship songs of this generation. As a bridge builder between traditional and contemporary worship, Baloche has literally put words in mouths of believers all over the world. The Dove award-winning artist has had his songs recorded by Michael W. Smith, Randy Travis, SonicFlood, John Tesh, and others. He currently has more than 10 songs on CCLI’s top 500 songs performed in churches. His “Open the Eyes of My Heart” is at No. 2 on the CCLI list.

Creative Answers for Mobile Sound Systems--Large & Small

The differences between in ears and wedges and the tips to make monitors work for you, not against you. If you are responsible for wireless microphone set-up or operation in the church, this is the stuff you’ve got to know. We’ll discuss topics such as antenna selection and placement, antenna distribution, frequency range selection, frequency coordination, and various troubleshooting techniques. One of the challenges to a great worship service is the volume level. In this class we will talk about the room and how improving the acoustics of the room can improve the overall volume worship experience. (repeated on Saturday)

Mobile sound systems can end up in less-than-perfect acoustic environments, like gymnasiums and multi-purpose rooms, which make it very difficult to produce excellent sound. We will be discussing ways to get the best sound no matter what kind of room it is in. If you have sound problems, whether your system is mobile or not, large or small, this class is for you.

Songwriting... Taking it to the Next Level

B-220

What is the secret of an effective worship band? King David required that all the musicians be ‘trained and skilled in music for the Lord.’ Paul and his band demonstrate important concepts like *mapping out a song *improving your timing *thinking like an arranger *band dynamics and tempo *guitar vs. piano driven songs *making music more emotional *creating an atmosphere of worship Commitment is the glue, skill is the sizzle. We will talk about the joy of people who have both and how to build your team when skilled players are hard to find. “When he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who sang to the LORD and those who praised Him in holy attire, as they went out before the army and said, “Give thanks to the LORD, for His loving-kindness is everlasting.” (2nd Chronicles 20:21) Learn how “singing” as a group (choir) brings power, hope, beauty and celebration. What does the Bible say about the importance of singing together? What are we missing by not having a choir in our worship services? Does the Bible really teach that we are to have choirs in worship? Learn how the choir “drives,” directs, influences the congregation’s worship”.

Helping the Choral/Classical Singer Sound Cool

B-120

How do we keep singing God’s praises when life is the pits? And as a worship leader, what happens when we no longer feel like “singing of His love forever”? If we are honest with ourselves, everyone has days when we don’t feel like worshipping, especially when God is taking through a season of brokenness. As we look at scripture together, come see how brokenness is actually at the very center of authentic worship. More and more churches are using the arts (music, drama, visual arts, film, etc.) in cutting-edge ways. But are your churches grounded in a biblical understanding of the arts? In this workshop, Manuel Luz gives a fresh and practical perspective on how the church can disciple and unleash the artists in your church, to express themselves more fully in and outside your church walls.

We like to pack things in tight. Offering so much for so little, Yamaha’s LS9 digital mixing console features a USB recording and playback device, virtual effects rack, a variety of EQ and dynamics, and recallable head amps. In addition, 16 or 32 channel models can be easily doubled to 32 or 64 channels via Mini-YGDAI expansion slots in a wide range of formats. Throw in an intuitive interface and an attractive price tag, and it’s easy to see that the LS9 is stuffed with potential.
