Third Sunday of Lent March 11, 2007

The place where you stand is holy ground.

The LORD secures justice              and the rights of all the oppressed.                                                        — Psalm 103:6

Call to Family, Community, and Participation says, as a human “both sacred and social.” Many people feel estranged from the community due to homelessness, not able to provide for their families, unexpected pregnancies and divorce. Jesus calls everyone to full dignity and active participation in community life once more. “We realize our dignity and the rights in relationship with others,” this teaching says. Where are there people in our communities who do not “have a place at the table?” How can we reconcile families, especially our own? Relationships make us whole. How can we reach out to those who lack these meaningful relationships? Marywood Family Services is a local organization in that assists pregnant and parenting women, assists with adoptions, and is a family shelter. To find out how you can help, go to www.marywood.org. Ireland No reptiles are found there [in Ireland], and no snake can live there; for, though often carried thither out of Britain, as soon as the ship comes near the shore, and the scent of the air reaches them, they die. —Venerable Bede

The only cure for sorrow is to kill it with patience.

The Lord is kind and merciful

—Irish Proverb

This weekend, the Church celebrates the first of three scrutinies with the Elect - those who are preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. We pray for our Elect: Julie Chou and Doug Hunt. These prayers are to assist them in their preparation for the Easter Sacraments and make firm their commitment as they enter the Church. Please keep them, as well as our Candidates for Full Communion, in your prayers.
