SUNGAI PETANI: Two men were arrested yesterday for stopping a bus which they claimed was carrying phantom voters for the Bukit Selambau by-election here. The men, aged 33 and 40, confronted the bus driver and the 32 passengers, aged between 17 and 26 years, who were looking for a place to stop for breakfast in Kampung Bukit Lembu at about 10am. Bukit Selambau by-election media officer Supt Hamzan Darus said the bus driver contacted the police, who took both men and the bus passengers to the Gurun police station. “It is learnt the bus was actually ferrying Umno Padang Besar supporters to the polling centre nearby,” he said. Hamzan said police took statements from the bus passengers and detained the two men under Section 341 of the Penal Code. At almost all polling stations in Bukit Selambau, crowds of Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat supporters faced each other on opposite sides of the road.
