conscientious hospital management. Preventing contamination and spread of infection is an assigned responsibility of the doctors and nurses, which can never be compromised. The most common cause of high internal rate of infection in a hospital is the poor sanitization of the beddings (sheets, pillows, mattresses etc) and the clothing used by the patients. Till now, the most commonly used methods of sanitizing bed sheets , mattresses ,

pillows ,

etc. have been ultra-violet radiation and

utilization of highly compressed steam. These methods can, at best, disinfect the surfaces but have not been so effective in eradicating the deep rooted pathogens. Guangzhou Kangzhen Medical Appliance Co. Ltd., following many years of extensive research, has developed KZ-X-DLI model of fully computer controlled ozone disinfector. This disinfector can be an excellent facility for cross-infection control and sanitization. It can root-out infection most

economically and effectively prevent the spread of diseases in a hospital environment. The ozone disinfector is the latest equipment of its kind and has been listed in the Disinfection Technical Standards published by the Department of Health in 2002. INDICATION The ozone disinfecting equipment can be applied to the bedding disinfection in hospitals and hotels, which includes the disinfection of mattresses; bed clothes,

carpet, pillow fillers and bed sheets and so on. In addition, it can also be applied for air sterilization in office; laboratory, meeting room, etc.

DIRECTION 1. Put the mattresses, bed clothes, bed sheets, pillows, etc. into the sealed plastic disinfection bags and then connect the gas transport pipes.  2.

Turn on the power button ON. Then choose the disinfecting time, from 20 to 30 minutes. Last, press the thin film switch ON, and then the equipment would begin to work. Count down the time, and when the clock reaches 00, the disinfecting operation has finished.

3. OZONE DISFINFECTION MECHANISM The disinfection function of ozone belongs to a biochemistry oxidization reaction. Because of its high oxidation potential, ozone oxidizes cell components of the bacterial cell wall. This is a consequence of cell wall penetration. Once ozone has entered the cell, it oxidizes all essential components (enzymes, proteins, DNA, RNA). When the cell membrane is damaged during this process, the cell will fall apart. This is called lysis,

The above-mentioned mechanism differs from that of halogens (such as chlorine), which are usually applied. Chlorine is known to penetrate cells by diffusion. Within the cell, chlorine affects several enzyme types.

SAFETY OF OZONE DISINFECTION Ozone is a safe gas that treats the environment friendly. And its only

toxicity is from its high oxidation potential. When the ozone concentration reaches 1.55ppm or up, people should not be allowed to stay around, because ozone is injurious to the breathing system of human body when it’s serious. Therefore, the ozone industrial associations have set health standard as follows:

International Ozone Association:

0.11ppm—approach—10 hours

United States of America:

0.1ppm—approach—8 hours

Germany/France/Japan, etc:

0.1ppm—approach—10 hours

China:

0.15ppm—approach—8 hours

Above are standards for keeping people in an ozone environment safely. Ozone concentration multiplied by its approach time can be seen as its standard point. As it’s reported that when ozone concentration reaches to 0.02ppm, people with sensitive smell can perceive it, which is called felling edge point; when the ozone concentration reaches to 0.15ppm, it’s called smell edge point, at which the ozone can be smelt by average people, and it is also known as the healthy standard point; in addition, when the ozone concentration reaches 1-10ppm, it is called the stimulation scope; when the concentration is above 10ppm, it is the point of poisonous edge. In fact, applying ozone appropriately can prevent

people from suffering. Instead, it is good for human when the ozone concentration is less than 0.1ppm in an environment. Ozone has been applied for more than 100 years. So far, there’s no one case reported that somebody was poisoned by ozone.
