The Voice
“Why?” the girl cried, “Why did it come to this?” “There was no other way” the voice replied “I thought you loved me”, she said, sobbing. “I did, and I still do” was the reply “Then why won’t you stay?” she sobbed The voice was silent for a while and then spoke, “that is not possible my dear, they do not want us to be together. They want to drive me out” “Stay with me” she screamed, “and I’ll protect you” “No”, the voice said solemnly, “they are slowly poisoning me. They want me dead, and they won’t stop until the poison has ravaged me completely. I cannot stay” “What will I do when you’re not here?” the girl said, her tears almost dry The voice replied, “I do not know, my love” “I cannot live without you, you know that” she murmured The voice was silent. She got up and retrieved a hidden gun from a drawer. She stared at it and said, “If you won’t stay, I will not live” Still the voice was silent. The girl placed the gun under her chin. “Can you not stay?” she whispered “No” the voice finally spoke “Goodbye then” she whispered “Goodbye” and the voice faded A final tear escaped her eyes as she pulled the trigger. A loud shot and slumped onto the table. Her blood flowed towards the pills that were being fed to her. “Personality disorder, multiple identities”, the men in the white suits had called it. Now as her blood soaked the pills, the voice was silent, and she was cured.
