The Nature of Immortality From EJ Hill & Friends

Introduction Why is this so important? It is important, because those that hold to the Universal Immortality of the Soul, attempt to convince us that the Immortality of the Soul is Universal to all mankind.

Defining Immortality Before considering the nature of immortality, we'd do well to first define what is meant by "immortality".

The Testimony of Scripture Now that we have defined "immortality" as "eternal life", let's see what Scripture says about Immortality (i.e. Eternal Life). It Is Conditional Neither Immortality, nor Eternal Life, is Universal. "And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken." (Gen. 3v22-23, AKJV, p.2) "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life: but the wrath of God abideth on him." (Jn. 3v36, AKJV, p.468) "Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth My flesh, and drinketh My blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day." (Jn. 6v53-54, AKJV, p.471) "We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him." (1 Jn. 3v14-15, AKJV, p.541) "Behold, I shew you a mystery; WE shall not all sleep, but WE shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and WE shall be changed. For THIS corruptible must put on incorruption, and THIS mortal must put on immortality. So when THIS corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and THIS mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" (1 Cor. 15v51-55, AKJV, p.511)

It Is Ordained Eternal Life and Immortality has been ordained. "And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed." (Acts 13v48, AKJV, p.489) It Is Promised Eternal Life and Immortality was promised. "And this is the promise that He hath promised us, even eternal life." (1 Jn. 2v25, AKJV, p.541) It Is Hoped For Eternal Life and Immortality to be hoped for. "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; ..." (Tit. 1v2, AKJV, p.529) "That being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." (Tit. 3v7, AKJV, p.530) It Is Sought Eternal Life and Immortality should be sought. "To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and IMMORTALITY, ETERNAL LIFE: ..." (Rom. 2v7, AKJV, p.498) "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life." (Jude 1v21, AKJV, p.544) It Is Found Eternal Life is found. "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mt, 16v25-26, AKJV, p.429) It Is Given Eternal Life and Immortality is given. "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (Jn. 10v28, AKJV, p.474) "For the wages of sin is death; but THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Rom. 6v23, AKJV, p.500) "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son." (1 Jn. 5v11,

AKJV, p.542) It Is Taken Eternal Life and Immortality is taken. "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses." (1 Tim. 6v12, AKJV, p.528) "Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life." (1 Tim. 6v19, AKJV, p.528) It Is Received Eternal Life and Immortality is received. "But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecution; and in the world to come eternal life." (Mk. 10v30, AKJV, p.444) It Is Inherited Eternal Life and Immortality is inherited. "And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life." (Mt. 19v29, AKJV, p.431) "And when He was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to Him, and asked Him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?" (Mk. 10v17, AKJV, p.444) "And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted Him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (Lk. 10v25, AKJV, p.457) "And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (Lk. 18v18, AKJV, p.462) It Is To Have Eternal Life and Immortality is something to have. "And, behold, one came and said unto Him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" (Mt. 19v16, AKJV, p.431) "That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (Jn. 3v15-16, AKJV, p.468) "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life: but the wrath of God abideth on him." (Jn. 3v36, AKJV, p.468) "And ye will not come to Me, that ye might have life." (Jn. 5v40, AKJV, p.470)

(Jn. 6v53-54, AKJV, p.471) "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." (1 Jn. 5v13, AKJV, p.542) It Is Manifested Eternal Life and Immortality is manifested. "(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us:)" (1 Jn. 1v2, AKJV, p.541) It is Put On Eternal Life and Immortality is put on. "Behold, I shew you a mystery; WE shall not all sleep, but WE shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and WE shall be changed. There is none good but one, that is, God: but IF thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." (Mt. 19v17, AKJV, p.431) It Is Only Attainable Through Faith Eternal Life and Immortality is only attainable through faith. "That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." (Jn. 3v15-16, AKJV, p.468) "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." This is the true God, and eternal life." (1 Jn. 5v20, AKJV, p.542)
