The uterus lining starts to break down. This is called having a period or menstruation. It may be accompanied by a stomach ache. It usually lasts about 5 days. The uterus lining is maintained at maximum thickness to be ready in case a fertilised egg arrives.
An egg is released from the ovary. This is called ovulation.
