Editorial Another year is poised to enter our lives... another set of moments that we call time is poised to reach out and make us stronger! For obvious reasons, this issue of ‘The Learner’ is bubbling with new year messages for all of us... and the best part is that these messages come from the heart of BIFM. Each message will give a different and relevant perspective to the year about to dawn. Each message carries with it a concern of people for people!
Message from the CEO, BIFM BIFM stands strong and successful on the young team that it has today. The energy, commitment and dynamism of team BIFM is the greatest strength for us in times to come. Our business is powered by the faith of the industry expressed for relevant education which makes it recession-proof. We need to harness this faith through a strategic commitment and cater to industry demand for market-ready professionals. My focus shall thus be in the creation and retention of a powerful talented team that can survive under any pressure and shall be a force to reckon with in times to come. I wish to nurture and grow this talent. I want and demand every single individual's effort towards higher revenue generation and cost minimisation. The industry is waiting to be tapped and we shall do it well. Trust God and yourself and work with a laser sharp focus on leading and dominating the market. Unleash your potential here at BIFM. - Siddharth Bagri.
This issue also has a small story that I read on the net... do read it and send me your comments. Someone once asked me: ‘How many people read ‘The Learner’?’ Well, this ‘pdf effort’ is aimed at evolving into a viable tool for internal communication... and a source for learning. In its small way, it has succeeded. The number of people sending new year messages to their colleagues is an example that is undeniable. Wishing you all a great time ahead in the coming year... enjoy what you do and remember that what you do now will stay with you for ‘lives’ to come. Do write back.

A new year has the term "new" in it. So, I will be looking to have a completely new perspective both in professional and personal life. I would rather extend this to each one of us, so that we could find out what has exactly gone wrong and look at the things from a new perspective and start afresh to get things going. Financial markets are in a tough situation, and we need to replan our strategies and work-vigour as well. Wishing everybody a "new" year in true sense, so that we discover a hidden force in us and aim to achieve what we haven't been in the past year. Happy new year! - Amit Agarwal (Faculty)
Year 2008 has bro ught more sorrow than happiness... from global financia l turmoil to bomb bl asts in many cities. But it has given us the opportunity to stop and analyze our own position as to wh ere we are heading. An year gone... another to dawn . What is a NEW Year? A new year comes a s a bunch of new opportunities. But it will not be easy for terror victims. They lost all hope to live their life. Therefore, as a responsible citizen of this country most effected by ter rorism in 2008, we should do something for the m. Lets make a resolution for this new year to help them....!!!! This alone is so much to be thankful of. Despite what's happening to the world, waking up each morning is such a blessing and a gift from above. It always reminds us that we can always look forward to a new morning, a new beginning. There are still a thousand and one reasons why we should be thankful for 2008, we don't need to elaborate and/or write everything, it's enough that we accepted what was given us and thankful for every lesson learned. As we leap to the New Year, let's bring with us all the positive things we learned from 2008 and transform to a better us. Wishing every one HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009!

PUT A SHARK IN YOUR TANK! This story has been circulating on the internet at this time of the year and I thought it has the right message for a lot of us. This new year, let us all resolve to be unafraid of challenges and learn to come face-to-face with them and be triumphant... everytime. These sharks can come in any form... from economic slowdown to big and small situations that have the power to unnerve anyone... unless we decide to get up and devise a strategy to win!
The Japanese have always loved fresh fish. But the water close to Japan has not held many fish for decades. So to feed the Japanese population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever. The farther the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring the fish. If the return trip took more time, the fish were not fresh. To solve this problem, fish companies installed freezers on their boats. They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea. Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer. However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen fish. And they did not like the taste of frozen fish. The frozen fish brought a lower price. So, fishing companies installed fish tanks. They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin. After a little thrashing around, they were tired, dull, and lost their fresh-fish taste. The fishing industry faced an impending crisis! But today, they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan. How did they manage? To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish in the tanks but with a small shark. The fish are challenged and hence are constantly on the move. The challenge they face keeps them alive and fresh! Have you realized that some of us are also living in a pond but most of the time tired and dull? Basically in our lives, sharks are new challenges to keep us active. If you are steadily conquering challenges, you are happy. Your challenges keep you energized. Don't create success and revel in it in a state of inertia. You have the resources, skills and abilities to make a difference. Put a shark in your tank and see how far you can really go! "Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character!" - Albert Einstein Always be positive... No Matter What!
And if there are no sharks around... go ahead and get one for yourself... for that is the only way to learn to be victorious! -Editor
