The Holocaust By: Katrina Logan

The word Holocaust is a word of Greek origin meaning “sacrifice by fire”

On April 20, 1889 Adolf Hitler was born. A man who would soon be known as history’s “greatest villain”

When Hitler was only 13 his father passed away, which made his household very strict and tense. At the age of 16 he quit school and never returned.

Hitler always wanted to be an artist. In 1907 he applied at Vienna Academy of Art, but was not accepted. Around a year later he tried to apply for the school again but was not allowed to take the exam again.

About two months after he applied for the college, his mother Klara passed away from cancer. Hitler then had to live with very little money he had from selling postcards, drawings he had done, and little inheritance from his mothers death.

Hitler soon moved to Munich, Germany in 1913 to avoid the war. Soon World Was I broke out and he got special permission to serve Bavarian-Germany army. He quickly proved himself as a strong courageous man.

Hitler soon got a new job where he would spy on the political groups. He soon became very interested in one group and decided to join it. it wasn’t long after he joined it that he became the leader of the group. On January 30, 1933,

Hindenburg appointed Hitler as chancellor of Germany. In less than a year and a half, Hitler was able to take over both president and chancellor and combine both of them into one position.

Soon after Hitler had gained all this power, he wasted no time taking advantage of it. He quickly began putting people in concentration camps who just simply didn’t agree with him.

According to the Peace Faq, an average of 5.29 million to six million were killed. That was only the Jews though, many other people were tortured and killed including, communist, homosexual men, Jehovah Witnesses, people with disabilities.

1.5 million children were killed during the Holocaust. This figure includes more than 1.2 million Jewish children, tens of thousands Gypsy children, and thousands of handicapped children.

Hitler still continued to put people in concentration camps and gas chambers. United States people know about them and where they were located but did not bomb out Hitler’s operation.

On April, 20, 1945 Hitler soon could not control things and he committed suicide.
