The foundations of Directed and Constructivist instruction Learning through the use of Information communication technology is one of the most powerful means of supporting learners to achieve national stated curriculum goals. Educators have realized that the world is changing too quickly so much that everyone should be able to learn in order to acquire skills that would help future citizens cope with technological change. There are two different views of teaching and learning which can help students and educators that is directed and constructivist instruction. Technology applications such as drill and practice tutorials are associated only with directed instruction. In this view teaching has to be directed, systematic, and structured. Other applications such as multimedia productions, web-based learning or problem solving can enhance either directed instruction or constructivist learning depending on how they are used. Directed instruction and constructivist approaches are based on the work of respected learning theorist and psychologist who have studied both the behavior of students in schools and classrooms. Constructivists are those who support inquiry based methods based on cognitive, developmental, and discovery theories. Learning occurs when one constructs both mechanism of learning and his or her own unique version of the knowledge colored by background, experiences and aptitudes. Where as directed instruction learning happens when this knowledge is transmitted to the people and they store it in their minds.
