Origins Legends • The most popular legend is that in a pool of blood, there was a reflection of a crescent moon and a star. • There are several versions of this legend.
Theories • Some __ have a theory: o The star and crescent were the symbols of Constantinople (Istanbul), and Turks took them after the conquest of the city (1453). o The crescent was the symbol of Byzantion. o The star was added after Christianity became the official religion.
