THE DUTCH DP CENTRE at Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz
This year THE DUTCH DP CENTRE at the Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz will celebrate it’s 10th anniversary of their full mission class 3 DP simulator. Since its establishment some 604 (April 2008) trainees have received their certificate and courses are run weekly.
In order to become certified DP operator a qualification programme comprising six elements has to be completed: • Approved induction training 4-5 days • Sea familiarisation 30 days • Approved simulator training 4-5 days • Sea Service 6 months • Assessment and approval by ship’s master • Certification
All DP induction and simulator courses are available on class 1, 2, and 3 equipment. Also the courses for DP seatime, shipping knowledge for nonseafarers, as well as DP power management, especially for engineers on DP vessels are being added. The Dutch DP Centre is fully certified by the Nautical Institute according to provisions from DNV, IMCA, IMO, VBKO, etc.

DP Training Systems A multitude of DP training systems is now available at the Dutch DP Centre at MIWB from various suppliers: Kongsberg/Simrad, Cegelec/Alstom/Converteam and Praxis Automation. These are both desktop stations, standalone consoles and consoles incorporated into the full mission ship bridge simulator. A great variety of fairways, open-sea and ports and the influences of waves, weather and current on the ships are realistically simulated.
