The Design Process
Whenever you are given any type of design problem you should use the Design Process. The steps of the design process are: • • • • •
Define the problem Brainstorm solutions Pick a solution Draw a plan of the solution Feedback
Step 1- Define the problem • In this step you define what the problem is, as well as any other requirements and restrictions.
Step 2 Brainstorming Solutions • During this step you discuss and chat with your team members to come up with, and sketch out ideas for the problem. • Usually I will as for 10 or more ideas.
Step 3 Pick an idea! • Pick the idea you think is most likely to work!
Step 4 Draw a plan of your idea • During this step you make a larger sketch of the idea, and make sure all parts are labeled to make sure that anyone can understand it!
Step 5- Build it! • Build it according to your plan
Step 6- Test it! • While testing make sure to follow the requirements! • Observe the device carefully, try to diagnose what (if any) issues you are having? • In your observation if there is no problems, try to improve the efficiency of you device, and make sure it is consistent!
Step 7- Feedback • According to the results you received from your test, try to figure out what needs to be fixed, tweaked, or changed. • If you feel that your idea is not working the way you wish for it to work, you can change your idea! • You must continue to improve your design for the duration of the class!
