4. Now read the dialogue again in pairs. V1: Good morning Mr Jenkins. What can I do for you? V2: I’ve come about my foot. I think I’ve damaged it.
V1: Ah. How did you do that then. V2: I think it was when I was playing my guitar. Sounds stupid, doesn’t it?
V1: Well, what happened exactly? V2: My dog came in and I tripped over her. I didn’t see her and now I’m in agony.
V1: I’d best have a look then. Can you take your socks and shoes off please? V2: But it’s only the right one that’s affected.
V1: I need to compare them. V2: I don’t think there’s much to see. Ouch!
V1: Tender there, is it? V2: You bet!
V1: And does it hurt when I bend your toes? V2: No
V1: And what about your ankle? V2: I don’t think so.
V1: Good! Well this foot is definitely bigger than your other one. You may have broken a small bone but it could just be a bad sprain. You’ll need an X-ray. In the meantime, don’t put any weight on it. V2: How can I get home then?
V1: We can lend you some crutches and you’ll need a taxi to get you to the hospital. The receptionist will make an appointment for you but I’d like it to be as soon as possible. V2: Thanks doctor.
