The 2009-2010 SIFE Leadership Team Upcoming Events/Dates to Remember
A Message from the President
Project Highlights
I am pleased to announce that Vanguard’s ‘09-‘10 SIFE team is continuing to improve upon the efforts made by last year’s team! We are so blessed to have such a hardworking and competent group of students! The team’s unceasing diligence has allowed us to explore our diverse talents to provide increased learning opportunities for those in our community. We continue our work to expand our audiences and tailor projects to meet their needs.
Networking Night
Through brainstorming, debating, and creativity, our team has developed 14 projects that we feel will best fit the needs of our surrounding community. We hope that you will continue to provide us with your insight for improvement as well as participate and support us in our efforts. We thank you for your continued advisement and guidance throughout the school year! Sincerely, Courtney Wolf President VUSIFE
On November 18th, we will be hosting a training seminar that focuses on teaching specific skills needed in the business world. This event is aimed towards entry level employees who are looking to advance in their companies as well as people who are recently unemployed as a result of the downturned economy. A representative from Dale Carnegie will be leading a discussion on the importance of using networking to one’s advantage, followed by table discussions led by experienced facilitators representing a variety of businesses. This exciting new contest will be focused on creating sustainable living environments for college students. Students will nominate friends, or even themselves, who will then submit a 2-minute video on how they are living in a less than eco-friendly setting. One of the top 5 most viewed videos on YouTube will have the chance to win a free “green” room makeover in hopes of raising greater awareness about the dire state of the environment.
FIVE WAYS YOU CAN MENTOR A SIFE STUDENT:
Bulls and Bears
1. Assist with SIFE Project Coordination
We all know it is much more fun to learn while playing a game, which is why we’ve decided to create a board game that teaches kids ages 12-18 about investments and the stock market. We plan to visit various organizations and play the game with their at-risk youth. In addition to this, we hope to sell this original board game to other SIFE teams across the nation so that they have the opportunity to use it in their communities.
