November 27, 2009 Media Release Re: Several Arrests during the Thanksgiving Holiday On November 26, 2009 at approximately 1:27pm Auburn Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 78 Franklin Street on the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival officers located a male suffering from a laceration to the left side of his face. Upon further investigation it was determined that the victim and his friend had a verbal disagreement with the defendant Jorge Luis Sanchez (09-291987). Sanchez allegedly then approached the victim striking him in the face with a weapon causing the laceration. The victim was transported to Auburn Memorial Hospital for treatment of an approximate 4” laceration to his face. Sanchez was subsequently arrested and charged with Assault 2nd and Criminal possession of a weapon 4th degree.

On November 26, 2009 at approximately 2:31am Auburn Police Officers were dispatched to 75 Pulaski St. on the report of an assault. While Officers were on scene along with Auburn Fire personnel an individual not involved in the assault investigation was backing out of a parking space. The individual backed his vehicle into one of the Officers on scene brushing his vehicle against the officer’s leg. The vehicle was stopped and a subsequent investigation lead to the arrest of the individual for aggravated DWI having a blood alcohol content greater than .18% . The officer was not injured during the incident. Arrested was Joseph John Wise (11-22-1983).

On November 26 at approximately 3:08am Police were dispatched to a Grant Avenue address on the report of a domestic incident. Upon further investigation it was learned that resident Richard Max Simmonds (05-16-1982) was involved in a physical domestic dispute with his live-in girlfriend. She attempted to leave the residence but was not allowed to and was assaulted by Simmonds. During the dispute a downstairs resident came to the aid of Simmonds girlfriend and attempted to help her leave the residence. Simmonds subsequently pushed her down a flight of stairs. Both females suffered minor injuries. Simmonds was subsequently arrested on numerous charges and held pending his arraignment.

Lastly, on November 26, 2009 at approximately 8:38pm Auburn Police Officers received a walk-in robbery/assault complaint at our 46 North Street Headquarters. The victim advised he was a patron of Jitz’s Tavern at 65 Franklin Street when he exited the bar to use his cell phone. Upon exiting the bar he advised he was assaulted and robbed by two individuals. The victim stated he was punched and kicked while being held on the ground and then robbed of his cellular phone and car keys. The victim was able to escape and run to the police department to report the incident. Upon Police arrival to the area of the incident the suspects were quickly apprehended and subsequently arrested. The victim suffered minor injuries during the incident. Arrested were Peter J. Harris (06-01-1979) and Donald J. Richardson (10-24-1977) who were held in the Auburn City Jail pending their arraignment in Auburn City Court.
