8 Tips to Successfully Deal with Recession 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Cut employees with ½ a job Cut weak sales performers Hire new sales superstars as they are available Market more aggressively with the methods know to be profitable Cut the 20% of marketing that does not work as effectively or is unknown to work 6. Retain, retain, retain your customers and be prepared to spend to do it 7. Acquire competitors 8. Give yourself a raise. Yes, you are reading this right. By giving yourself a raise, you create positive tension to produce greater profitability through both increased sales and cost cutting.
How to determine which employees need to go? Their pay vs. fair market value i. What could the employee get another job paying? ii. What will you have to pay to replace them? Vested training cost Ease of replacement. Keep in mind it is ALWAYS a pain to replace an employee. Therefore, only and extraordinarily difficult replacement is relevant. Ignore whether or not you like the employee; this is business Do they have ½ a job or ¾ of a job? If you took their pay and gave yourself a raise equal to their pay upon their termination, would you get rid of them or keep them? Who does their work if they are gone? Does the employee add revenue or cost?
