TENSES 1- Present Continuous (Progressive) Tense Form: S + am/is/are + Ving + O + C Use: a) içinde bulunduğumuz anda yapmakta olunan eylemleri belirmekte kullanırız. → She’s listening to the teacher now. b) Konuşmanın geçtiği sırada eylemi yapıyor olmasak bile o sıralarda yaptığımız işleri bu zaman ile anlatırız. → She’s reading book by Orhan PAMUK. c) Değişmekte olan durumları bu tense ile anlatırız. → Everything’s getting more and more expensive. d) Gelecek zaman zarfları ile gelecekte yapmayı planladığımız eylemleri anlatmak için kullanılır. → He’s having a birthday party next week. e) Sık sık beklenmedik bir şekilde tekrarlanan rahatsız edici durumlarda kullanırız. → May radio is always(constantly-continually) breaking down. T.Ş.)+ O + C Use: a) Genelde yaptığımız işleri alışkanlıkları bu tense ile ifade ederiz. → We have a chat with friends on Sundays. b) Doğa kanunları, her zaman geçerliliği olan doğrular ve genellemeler bu zamaan ile ifade edilir. → Water boils at 100ºC. → The earth revolves round the sun. c) “What do you do? soru kalıbıyla meslekleri sormada kullanılır. d) “Why don’t/doesn’t + subject + …” kalıbıyla önerileri belirtmede kullanırız. → A: I have a headache. B: Why don’t you take a tablet. e) Sinema, tiyatro gibi etkinliklerin başlama ve bitiş saatleri, ders programarının ya da uçak, tren veya otobüs kalkış ve varış saatleri anlatmada kullnılır. → Our lessons begins at 17:00 and and finishes 19:45. f) Gazete başlıkları fotoğraf altyazılarında kullanırız.

3- Simple Past Tense Form: S + V2 + O + C Use: a) Geçmişte yaptığımız eylemleri olayları ve durumları anlatırken kullanırız. → They painted their house last week. b) Geçmişteki alışkanlıklarımızı ifade ederiz. → When she 17years old, she smoked. 2 While = Just as (Vurgulu) = as Aynı anlama gelirler. → Just as he was about to go out, the phone rang. 5- Present Perfect Tense Form S + have/has + V3 + O + C Use a) Geçmişte başlayıp içinde bulunduğumuz anda devam eden ya da çok kısa bir süre önce sona erip, etkisi hala süren eylemlerde kullanılır. → They have painted their house. → She has cleaned the room (Bu oda şu anda temiz). b) Geçmişte bir eylem olmuş bitmiş olabilir. Zaman zarfı yoksa Perfect Tense kullanılır. Zaman zarfı varsa Past Tense’dir. Time expressions Lately so far Recently up to now Until now Just: Olumlu cümlelerde Yrd. Fiil ile asıl fiil arasına Yet: Henüz anlamında olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde, cümle sonunda.

Already: Zaten çoktan anlamında olup, olumlu cümlelerde, yrd fiil ile asıl fiil arasına ya da cümlenin sonuna.

Once twice Three times several times Many times Since for Since: Bu kelimden sonra bir cümle kullanılır. “for” için böyle bir durum yoktur. Since + S. Past Tense + Present Perfect Present Perfect + since + S. Past Tense → I have known Ahmet, since I came to Elazığ. * Since’den sonra cümle gelme zorunluluğu yok. It is + a period of time + since + S. This is +superlative+Present Perfect Tense → This is the best meal I’ve ever eaten. This is + the first time/second time … + Present Perfect Tense → This is the second time I have played chess. → She has gone to Malatya. (She hasn’t returned) Eğer sözü edilen kişi sözü edilen yerde daha önce bulunduğunu ifade ediyorsa, yani konuşma sırasında, yani konuşma sırasnda başka bir mekanda ise “been” kullanılır. → She has been to Malatya. (She has returned). 6- Present Perfect Continuous Tense Form S + have/has + been + Ving + O + C Use: a) Geçmişte başlayıp içinde bulunduğumuz anda devam eden eylemleri belirtmede kullanılırız. P. Perfect. Continuous Tense ile Present Perfect Tense Arasındaki Farklılıklar a) Sayı, miktar belirten ifadeler P. Perfect Cont. T. ile kullanılmazlar. → I have watched several film so far. b) Sürerlik bildiren tenselerle kullanılmayan fiiller “want ve wish” hariç P. Perfec Cont.T. ile de kullanılmazlar. c) Present Perfect Cont. T. ile “always, never, sometimes” gibi sıklık bildiren zarflar ile “once, twice, several times …” gibi eylemin kaç kez yapıldığını bildiren yapılarla ya da “just, yet, already” gibi eylemin bittiğini tamamlandığını ifade eden yapılarla kullanılmaz. 3 No sooner + Past Perf. + than S. Past 8- Past Perfect Cont. Tense Form S + had been + Ving + O + C Use: a) Past Perfect Con. Tense tam olarak Pres. Perf. Con. T.’ninpast biçimidir. Bu tense ile geçmişte başlayıp yine geçmişte bir noktayakadar devam eden eylemleri ifade eder. → I had been waiting for my father for two hours when he finally came. 9- Future Tense Form S + will/shall + V + O + C S + be going to + V + O + C Use: a) Önceden tasarlamış, planlamış olduğumuz bir durumdan söz ederken be + going to kullanılır. b) Henüz öğrendiğimiz bir konuda, yaplmakta istekli olduğumuz bir durumu “will” ile ifade ederiz. → A: I need moneyç B: I will lend you. c) Bir olayın olacağına ilişkin belirtiler varsa “going to” kullnaılır. → The sky is black. It’s going to rain. d) Ancak herhangi bir beirti olmaksızın bir tahminde bulunuyorsak “will” kullnaılır. → Fenerbahçe will be champion this year. e) “I’m sure, I think, probably, I hope” gibi yapılarda genellikle “will” kullnaılır. → I hope you will pas the KPDS exam. f) Rica cümlelerinde “will” kullanılır. → will you help me? Time expressions Tomorrow … next … In two years in five weeks Two weeks later soon Tonight Adverbial clauses a) Adverbial clause’larda tense uyumu olacaktır.(Past, Past) (Present, Present) b) Adverbial clause’ların bulunduğu kısımda “will, going to” kullnaılmaz. Yerine Simple Present Tense kullanılır. 10- Future Continuous Tense Form S + will be + Ving + O + C Use: a) Bu tense’I gelecekte bir noktada yapıyor olacağımız eylemleri ifade etmede kullnaırız. → Don’t call me between 9:30-11:30, I’ll be havng a party. Tomorrow at 7:30 11- Future Perfect Tense Form S + will have + V3 + O + C Use a) Gelecekte bir noktaya kadar tamamlamış olacağımız eylemleri belirtirken kullanırız. → She will have graduated from university in two years. Time expressions By (kendisinden sonar isim gelir) By the time (kendisinden sonar cümle gelir) By the time + S. Present , Future Perf./will be →She will have finished her work by the time her parents come back. → She will be at home by the time her parents come back. 12- Future Perfect Continuous Tense Form S + will + have +been +Ving + O + C Use a) Gelecekte bir işi ne kadar zamandır yapıyor olacağımız bu zaman ile ifade deriz. → By next year, I will have been teaching Englis for 13 years.
