WHY WE CHOSE THIS? The Monroe Statue is an iconic location in Chennai. What better a way to start this series than to put a picture of the statue captured in an interesting way! Also, we wanted to share with you a very interesting tidbit associated with it.

DID YOU KNOW??? The sculptor of this wonderful ''Sir Thomas Monroe sitting on a horse back'' statue in the last century, (placed in the Mount Road, Chennai) committed suicide, when he was pointed out that he forgot to sculpt the 'saddle'!

Vaitarna Green. A very wet, very Hopkinsian “glad” green, carpet of foot-long blades, with the back-drop being six hills and three hillocks: silver-grey, with a blue blanket and a mist-scarf. Raise your eyes a bit, and the skies seem to be in celebration; with three big garlic-bread-loaf-shaped clouds converging towards each other, and towards the hills. A steady breeze stroked the happy grass. The sky was overcast: white and grey (a very promising monsoon-sky); and there were rain sprinkles, occasionally. Towards bottomright was a boisterous, rain-fed, muddy stream: the only rough presence around. But, though “rough” is a hard word I use, the stream was not a disturbance to the beauty of the place. It was, on the contrary, completing the picture: much like what some naughty kids would have done in a family photograph. Put all of the above in a rectangular frame and you might be able to see what struck me through the 3’ X 2’ bars-less window of a Shatabdi Express that was bringing me from Bombay to New Delhi. The name of this place, or of the nearest railway station, is Vaitarna. Looked like one of those places that He seems to choose as promotionals for heaven.

g The Streetside Quoteser! So you thought only the Keats could call a thing of beauty to be a joy forever? Or that only the van de Rohe's could proclaim that less is more?! Ha! We have our own bunch of Streetside Quotesers! Your very own people who have SO much worthy to say that we went WOW and decided we'd run their words on our ezinetter! So here goes. Hear it from our very own people...

Art is an expression of one's inner thoughts in whatever form inspires the person the most. Driven out of beauty or driven out of despair, art is the most subjective form of science. But it is the most universally accepted/ appreciated form! Niveditha Viswanathan is just about to work with an NGO in the educationsector in chennai, leaving the comforts of her well-paid job. She loves writing.

An idea is something that solves a purpose… something which instigates innovative thinking, existing in the conscious mind, often taking the shape of a fantasy. MaheedHar Raman is in his CA final, currently on study leave for the aforementioned CA so he can add those precious letters after his name!

Divya.S.Nair is a software developer who loves classic rock and believes that Eric Clapton's 'Layla' should be the official song of the world!

What excitement would there be to lead oneself into whats obvious? Through a path where every fallen twig is expected? Like a story which thrives on a cliché...yes that’s the word....is a cliché enticing? A cliché too was a novel idea once upon a time; which turned out to be so interesting that it would have been irresistibly used over and over again till it might lose its charm like an advice. There exists a comfort level in a cliché and very few know how to make an engaging experience out of a cliché. Now that’s a challenge not widely appreciated.

Anoodha Kunnath is a dreamer, writer, foodie and a short-filmmaker. Between all that and sketching, music and dance, she also manages her final year of Architecture.

Uma Maheshwari is a final year student of Architecture. Family and friends are what she gives the most importance to in life, apart from of course, having fun with both of the above. Good music and excellent company are what she cherishes. She's considered by many in her class, to be their own version of Konkona Sensharma.
