Competency being met

Narrative To teach reading, a basic narrative is a platform for enhancing developmental skills in many areas. Literacy, social, emotional, and language skills are just a few areas of developmental milestones that a basic narrative grows. Specifically to teach reading, I would do group reading because it is an incredible way for children to learn because it provides opportunities for reading in a natural and comfortable environment. I would set aside 20-30 minutes for this activity. I would either have them sit on the floor in a designated “reading corner” in the classroom or move desks in a circle to provide a relaxing environment. Each week would be a different them. I have a list of books that is organized in categories:

Competency being met

Narrative I believe it is just as important to teach mental and emotional health along with typical developmental skills in reading, writing, mathematics, etc. How I would incorporate this in a classroom is by bringing in guest speakers and playing different informative videos. Specifically with the guest speakers, I would bring people such as counselors, other teachers, community leaders, and like in the above video, they brought in service dogs. I want it to be interactive and engaging for the students. By bringing in guest speakers it allows for a special and unique time from normal classroom routine that enhances excitement to pay attention for the students. I will provide time towards the end for open questions/discussion with the students about different mental health topics.
