REPORT ON TEACHING MATHEMATICS LESSON USING VIRTUAL MANIPULATIVE

During

the

set

induction,

the

teacher

recall

pupils'

prior

knowledge by asking them to name the shapes and the corners of each

shape

have.

This

was

done

using

www.priorywoods.middlesbrough.sch.uk/previews/shapes.htm .

Then, the teacher introduced the lesson by showing the first activity on “Attribute Blocks”, where the pupils were asked to discover the concepts of the shapes. With the aid of the teacher, pupils were easily identifying each group of shapes according to its shapes, size and colour.

One of the pupil is trying the virtual manipulative on Interactive Whiteboard. During this activity, the pupils were actively involved. They also helped their friend in answering the questions. Some of the pupils were able to each group of shapes according to its colour, shape and size.

The second activity was about "Attribute Trains". In this activity, the pupils were asked to identify the patterns and the relationships of the given shapes.

One of the pupils is trying to discover the pattern in the “Attribute Trains” activity. In this activity, some of the pupils find it is quite difficult but as their friend tried to solve some of the questions in front, they eventually can discovered the pattern of the shapes. At the end of the lesson, the pupils were asked to do group work activities where they have an opportunities to experience using the virtual manipulative on their own and discuss among themselves about the activity.

Due to time constraint and limited number of computer which is available with the internet service, only some of the pupils were called up to the teachers’ desk and doing the activity on their own.
