Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 1 Corinthians 10:12-14 SLAYING THE IN YOUR
1 Corinthians 10:12-14 The Message Don't be so naive and self-confident. You're not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it's useless. Cultivate God-confidence. 13 No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through it. SLAYING THE IN YOUR
14 So, my very dear friends, when you see people reducing God to something they can use or control, get out of their company as fast as you can. 1 Corinthians 10:14 SLAYING THE IN YOUR
Common Experience of Temptation Look at verse 13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man;”. MSG 13 No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face First Paul says let us understand that temptation is common to us all. We may feel like we are the only person going through what we are going through but just remember ‘You are in good company’.

Even Jesus was tempted. “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15 Yet without fail. SLAYING THE IN YOUR
Too many people are defeated before they begin because they see temptation as a sin. The devil convinces them that they are moral failures because of their temptation. Yet temptation is not uncommon to man or any Christian. J. Wilbur Chapman describes it this way, “Temptation is the tempter looking through the keyhole into the room where you’re living; sin is your drawing back the bolt and making it possible for him to enter.” SLAYING THE IN YOUR
Controlled Environment of Temptation but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, MSG All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through it. God allows temptation in our lives for many reasons but we have his promise that he will limit the intensity of the temptation.

WEAPONS TO USE AGAINST TEMPTATION SLAYING THE IN YOUR
Resist the Devil and He will Flee From You (3) James 4:7 gives us another tip to overcoming temptation and that is to “resist the devil”. Stand firm and hold onto your position and fight the devil. Use the word of God as Jesus did and defeat the enemy. Jesus used just one book to defeat the devil and his temptations just think what power we have by using the whole word of God. Recognize the Possibility of Temptation “12 Wherefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” MSG Don't be so naive and self-confident. You're not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it's useless. Cultivate Godconfidence. SLAYING THE

Request Help in Time of Temptation (2) Twice we are told by Jesus to pray about temptation. Matthew 6:13, the Lord’s Prayer we are told to pray, “Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.” Then in Matthew 26:41 Jesus said, “watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation”. Watch and pray means that we need to be on high alert. Be very careful and clearly focused. SLAYING THE IN YOUR
Retreat from Certain Kinds of Temptation Yes there is a time to fight but the Bible tells us that there is a time to flee. The Bible tells us there kinds of sins that we need to flee from. 1. Here in verse 14 we are told to “Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.” An idol can be anything that comes between you and God. SLAYING THE IN YOUR
14 So, my very dear friends, when you see people reducing God to something they can use or control, get out of their company as fast as you can. 1 Corinthians 10:14 SLAYING THE IN YOUR
2. Secondly we are told in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to “flee sexual immorality.” MSG 18 There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and Godmodeled love, for "becoming one" with another. Joseph in Genesis 39 SLAYING THE IN YOUR
3. Finally we come to 1 Timothy 6:10-11 1 Timothy 6:10-11 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. This another form of idolatry but it deserves its own category. So many people has been bound because of their pursuit of money and SLAYING THE the control of greed. IN YOUR
1 Timothy 6:10-11 MSG Lust for money brings trouble and nothing but trouble. Going down that path, some lose their footing in the faith completely and live to regret it bitterly ever after. 11 But you, Timothy, man of God: Run for your life from all this. Pursue a righteous life--a life of wonder, faith, love, steadiness, courtesy. SLAYING THE IN YOUR
Remove Any Means of Sin Far from You How easy it is for us to try to force faith into a box and limit God’s leading. Proverbs 4:14-15 says, “ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.” MSG Don't take Wicked Bypass; don't so much as set foot on that road. 15 Stay clear of it; give it a wide berth. Make a detour and be on SLAYING THE your way. IN YOUR
Replace Bad Influence with Good Ones (6) “ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools will be destroyed.” (Proverbs 13:20) MSG 20 Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces. SLAYING THE IN YOUR
Resolve to Take the High Road There are two roads that we can take. The high road or the low road. The low road is the easy road with not many obstacles. Yet the high road is full of decisions and treacherous mountains. Yet it is the high road that has the greatest and longest lasting rewards for life. SLAYING THE IN YOUR
Highway to Holiness Isaiah 35:8-9 A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray. 9 No lion shall be there, Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; It shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there. CONCLUSION “We don’t have to worry about buckling in to the pressure when the pressure in here is greater than the pressure out there.”
