TA’ARUF MONTHLY ISLAMIC eNEWSLETTER Volume 1 Issue 3

AN INTRODUCTION TO ISLAM

August 2006

Quranic Studies Assalam o alaikum, Al-hamdulillah here is the third issue of TA’ARUF. MAKTABA-

is thankful to all brothers and sisters in Islam for the feed back. I receive many emails with “Dua” for me and thanking me for such an informative enewsletter. All Praise to Allah (S.W.T.), my position in this enewsletter is not more than a compiler of other’s work. We believe in Allah alone, same Holy Book The Qur’an and the same Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.), but the difference in Muslims of earlier time and now is remarkable. We need to find out what is missing to be a Muslim like Muslims were in the earlier time of Islam? Your brother and friend, in need of your “Dua”.

[al-Maida 5:2] O ye who believe! Violate not the sanctity of the symbols of Allah, nor of the sacred month, nor of the animals brought for sacrifice, nor the garlands that mark out such animals, nor the people resorting to the sacred house, seeking of the bounty and good pleasure of their Lord. But when ye are clear of the sacred precincts and of pilgrim garb, ye may hunt and let not the hatred of some people in (once) shutting you out of the Sacred Mosque lead you to transgression (and hostility on your part). Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancour: fear Allah: for Allah is strict in punishment. Sura al-Maida the fifth (5) Sura of The Holy Qur’an begins with :

O ye who believe! fulfil (all) obligations Islam provides comprehensive guidelines for all people to follow in different walks of life. The guidance it gives includes the social, economic, political, moral and spiritual aspects of life. Qur’an reminds man the purpose of life on earth, and his duties and obligations towards himself, his community, and his Creator and demands “O ye who believe! fulfil (all) obligations”. It is the mercy of Allah, (Subhan Wa Taala) His immense grace and the completion of his favours upon us that He has taught us about the months of the year also. (continued page 4)

Rajab 1427 A. H.

Glory to (Allah) Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless,- in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things). [al-Israa : 17:1]

The night journey of Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) is perplexing to the imagination of non believers that is why it is not given any heed. Some of the Makkans asked Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) to describe the mosque of Jerusalem, though Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) had never visited there but the description was correct and Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) was successful. Some of the companions of the Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) differed with regards to the actual nature of his ascent. Among them some believed it was physical, or spiritual or in dream. Most of the companions and their successors hold the doctrine of physical ascent. The word used in The Holy Qur’an is : There are so many incomprehensible things, like Predestination, Paradise, Hell etc. Man can not comprehend those things due to the limitations of knowledge and experiences he has. We confess that we are not in better position to give light in an unseen thing. Doesn’t God have power enough to lift human body to Haven? Indeed He had shown this power by taking Jesus to Heaven. To deny is to limit the power of The God. From the verses of The Holy Qur’an and the traditions of The Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) the Prophet’s night journey from the Holy Kaaba to the mosque of the Jerusalem and from there crossing the seven Heavens up to the Lote tree which is the farthest limit of man and angles has been firmly established. The Holy Prophet Mohammad (sallallahu alayhi wassalam) alone went little further and spoke with Allah (Subhan Wa Taala) behind a veil and received revelations which no mortal had attained before. In Sura an-Najm (the star) of The Holy Qur’an it is mentioned with beautiful verses as: (continued page 4)

Deaths in Rajab:

In above ayat 2 of Sura al-Maida Allah

Imam Abu Hanifa (R.A) passed away on the sacred 15th of Rajab 150 A.H. months of the year. The names of these sacred Imam Shafi'ee (R.A) passed away on the 14th months are mentioned in an authentic hadith Rajab 204 A.H. said by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wassalam), in Imam Muslim (R.A) passed away on the 24th of Rajab 261 A.H. the Farewell Pilgrimage. According to this Imam Nawawee (R.A) passed away on the 14th hadith, the sacred months are four, three in of Rajab 677 A.H. succession—that is, Dhul-Qi`dah, Dhul-Hijjah, from page 2 Hadith & Sunnah (Subhan Wa Taala) warns about

Rajab is the seventh month of Islamic Calendar.
