Introduction of process

First we enter co and H2 to the first synthesis reactor .The synthesis of methanol from carbon monoxide and hydrogen is a reversible reaction . CO+2H=CH3OH The equilibrium constant of the reaction decrease as the temp increase .The best possible conversion is attained at 400C & 3000-4000psig.Along with the synthesis of methanol ,some other reaction also occur . Co+3H2=CH4+H2O 2CO+2H2=CH4+CO2 2CO=C+CO2 Xco+yH2=high molecular wt of alcohols and hydrocarbons.

Synthesis of methanol 1. We have CO & H2 as feed material .

2. We transfer our feed to the reactor. 3. After our next process is condenser. 4. Then we transfer our material to the separator where waste gases are blown in to the air. 5. After we transfer our material to the crude methanol tank. 6. At last we have rectifying chamber where we rectify our product electrically. 7. Finally from rectifier we get refined Methanol.

Co & H2 used a feed Hydrogen and carbon monoxide gases are introduced in the reactor at 375C and 4000psig in a ratio slightly greater than 2:1 .The reaction is self sustaining i.e once started there is no requirement to provide heat .

Condenser The methanol containing gases leave the reactor and pass through the condenser 3000-4000psig pressure ,where methanol is condensed .

Separator Now the effluent goes to high pressure zone to ensure the complete condensation of methanol .The effluent goes to a low –pressure where the pressure is set in such a way that only methanol liquefies other gass ,which are produced by side reactions, get out from top.

Crude methanol tank The crude methanol tank goes to storage tan from where it goes for rectification .Here the methanol is purified from all impurities , which may involve high molecular wt alcohols.

Rectifier and Refining of final product The refined and pure methanol goes for usage .The commonly used catalyst for this process are metallic oxides of copper , zinc , chromium etc.
