Syllabus for Music Theory & Appreciation Class Program

Class age:

i) Class for students from 6 - 10 yrs old ii) Class for students from 11 yrs old & above

All students from different instrumental/vocal background and from different level are encouraged to join. The students in the class will be benefited with the vast knowledge of theory, history and appreciation of music. Good understanding of theory is important to ensure that the students can understand music as clearly as possible and to help them to make music better.

The purpose of the Music Theory and Appreciation program is to help the students to: 1.1 Master a music piece faster – understand the concept behind a music piece will quicken the learning process 1.2 Appreciate music from different genre – learn how to listen to music in a more intellectual and sensible way 1.3 Enjoy music making a step further

Activities that will be conducted during the classes are: listening to music from various genre, learning the basics of the theory of music, and learning aural skills. Learning materials and books will be prepared by the teacher

Some fun activities (music or non-music related) will also be included at the beginning and the end of the lesson - this will help them to concentrate and learn efficiently during the class

An exam will be conducted after a certain amount of lessons to ensure the students fully understand the knowledge and skills learned in class

This class will also serve as a purpose to make the students be well-prepared for their practical TRINITY exam in the supporting-test section (musical knowledge & aural skills). Hence, higher grading marks will be achieved

The class will be conducted mainly in English, and Vietnamese in certain amount for the musical terms and further explanation in order to let the students comprehend the teaching thoroughly
