Agriculture Biotechnology Productive Microbes: Develop a technology for producing microbes for organic farming agriculture, wastewater treatment and for animal nutrition. Bioproducts: Develop technology package for low cost liquid based Biofertilizer and Biocontrol agents for agriculture usages. Biorefinery: To develop reliable technology for assessment of different oil seeds in respect of bio- diesel production. Develop cost effective processing technology for diesel oil extraction from different oilseeds. Develop a low cost technology for production of quality seedling through tissue culture technique for biodiesel production. Bio ethanol: Develop microbial strain for ethanol production from cellulose sources

Sweet Sorghum  Sweet Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor(L) Moench) is the principal cereal crop.  It is a C4 plant tolerant to drought, acidity, alkalinity and salinity.  Most efficient biomass producer has thick juicy stalks and accumulates sugar in the stem.

Salient Features:  Short duration crop ( 31/2 to 4 Months)  Less water requirement  Easy for cultivation and maintenance  Less investment  Alternate cost effective feedstock for Ethanol production  Yield 20 – 25 Tonnes per Acre  Provides good return to farmer  Bagasse – a valuable bye product for power generation/ cattle feed and source for manufacturing paper.

Sweet Sorghum Development National Research Centre for Sorghum (NRCS), Hyderabad, under the ambit of Indian council of Agricultural Research is carrying out the research and development activities on sorghum crop and particularly Sweet sorghum crop as bio-energy crop for industrial exploitation. A pilot study by NRCS in collaboration with Renuka Sugars factory located near Belgaum in Karnataka was successfully conducted for the assessment of techno economic feasibility of ethanol production from Sweet sorghum Juice. Trial cultivation of Sweet sorghum in M/s Sagar Sugars and Allied Products Limited., project area Viz. Chithoor district has also revealed encouraging results for growing and exploitation of this crop for energy production for both Ethanol from Juice and power from bagasse.
