Supremacy Of Christ Read Colossians 1:1-23 Rosella Shishido
Looking at the stars on a clear night is one of my favorite things. I like to get lost in the vastness of the universe and marvel at God’s genius. How can everything be so masterfully created? Why are there so many stars? Why create an immeasurable universe? And even more baffling: How did He do that? Today’s Scripture reading points to Jesus Christ as the One through whom all things were created. Jesus was an integral part of the creation of the universe. What we know as scientific laws are the expressions of the wisdom of God through Jesus. Paul states in verse 17, “He Himself is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” Jesus is the reason why stars stay put while planets move precisely along non-intersecting paths. Everything in the universe is perfectly orchestrated and integrated, revealing the masterwork of the Godhead. The Bible says that Christ is supreme. He is sovereign. He is Lord of all creation. He is more important than any king or president past, present or future. Just imagine how big and powerful He is. And yet, He makes time for you and for me. He can handle any global problem as well as our private, personal concerns. He’s that big! Jesus is also referred to as “the Firstborn over all creation.” Among the ancient Hebrews and Greeks the title “firstborn” was a common title of honor that meant “the chosen one” or “the most favored.” Jesus is God the Father’s chosen and favored Son. Even though Jesus carries all of these powerful titles, He is still within our reach. He is not distant like the stars He created, but totally accessible: He wants to talk to us and listen to us. He loves us and wants each of us to know Him personally. He is the Savior who died for every single one of us. The Creator dying for the created. How can anyone top that?
P R AY E R Help me, Lord Jesus, to remember who You really are. May the demands of daily concerns and busy schedules not diminish the fact that You reign over everything, and that nothing is impossible with You. In Christ’s name, Amen.
