Sunken Treasure Found Off Namibian Coast! Looking For Diamonds and Finding Gold A few days after Namdeb corporation pushed back the ocean to clear the way for a new mining site, Namdeb’s Resource manager began his inspection to insure the site was viable for their operations, and to insure the company wasn’t inadvertently damaging anything sensitive to environmental or public interest. He came across a strange round object about as big as his hand which he did not recognize. He turned it over to find numbers inscribed on the object. He contacted archeologist Dieter Noli, and discovered the object was a copper ingot, an old form of currency. Futher investigation uncovered one of the richest and most compelling shipwrecks found off of the African coast. OK, the story of the discovery isn’t quite as romantic as a young man, down on his luck, finding a treasure ship buried in the sand during a low tide, but in this case, the tide was only so low because Namdeb drained the seabed to make it easier to search for diamonds. Namdeb is the joint effort between the Namibian government and South
African diamond giant DeBeers, and, yes, they are already rich, but for many reasons, it was good that Namdeb made the discovery rather than a private citizen. Besides being able to push back the ocean, Namdeb is also partly government owned, making it easier to deal with government regulations. And let’s not discount the value of deep pockets! Namdeb is in a position to hire its own archeologists to oversee the extraction, cataloguing, and meticulous analysis of every scrap that is removed from the site. Loot
The Investigation Archaeologist Dieter Noli is heading the investigation with his friend and former teacher, Bruno Werz. The two divide their time between inventorying the find in Namibia and doing research in museums and libraries in Cape Town. Eventually, they will go to Portugal or Spain to search for records of a vessel with similar cargo that went missing. The ship itself has largely disintegrated, but from the dating of the coins and experts analysis of the wreckage the ship likely sunk in the early 1500’s.
The cargo on board is the richest ever found off the Namibian coast. According to Namdeb Spokesman, Hilifa Mbako, 'The site yielded a wealth of objects including six bronze cannons, several tonnes of copper, more than 50 elephant tusks, pewter tableware, navigational instruments, weapons, and thousands of Spanish and Portuguese gold coins, minted in the late Dr. Dieter Noli Enjoying the Find of his Lifetime. Photographs 1400s and early 1500s.’ provided by Namdeb via the Associated Press.

Famous Shipwrecks In History
The Andrea Doria - The Flagship of the luxury Italian cruise liners in 1951, the Andrea Doria sank after crashing into a Swedish freighter. Radar readings were apparently misinterpreted by both ships.
The Bismarck - The Pride of the German navy, admired by Winston Churchill, this Bismarck was sunk on its maiden voyage after an eight day chase and an epic sea battle in 1941. 115 out of 2200 crew members survived.
Some of the coins from the find. The total value of the treasure is said to be about 2.2 million US dallars.
The Titanic - Certainly the most famous sunken ship, the supposedly unsinkable steamer sank in 1912, swimming pools, gymnasium, squash court, turkish baths, and all, after hitting an iceburg. About 1523 of the 2228 people on board were killed, although most of the first class passengers managed to find one of the under stocked escape boats.
