AP Calculus BC Summer Packet Dear Students, The main objective of AP Calculus BC is to provide students with an opportunity to explore the higher levels of mathematics. This exploration will allow students to appreciate the intricacies of mathematics and develop a solid foundation, which they can take with them into their higher-level classes. To retain the knowledge that you have learned in Calculus AB you are required to complete this summer review packet that contains about 20 to 30 hours of problems. The problems that you will be completing are a lot more difficult then you have done in the past. They require that you use the full range of knowledge you have been taught over the past three years. The problems typically involve a level of abstraction that you may not have seen before. ALL of the problems can be completed using your knowledge of AP Calculus AB. I expect you to attempt if not solve most of the problems, but I do understand that some of the problems may give you trouble. To complete this packet you may need the help of external resources. You are allowed to use any Calculus book, friend, parent, or fellow AP Calculus BC student. You may NOT receive help from the Internet nor any Notre Dame High School teacher. This packet is designed to test your ability to handle a higher level of mathematical thinking and provide the teacher with a good understanding of your mathematical weaknesses, so that they may be resolved early in the class.
Sincerely, The Notre Dame Mathematics Department
