It’s the second largest cosmetic franchise in world after L'Oreal. Founded by DAME Anita Roddick. It’s headquarter is in Little Hampton , West Sussex, England. The total no. of stores are more than 2400 in 61 markets. It runs the livelihood of 10034 employees.

THE BODY SHOP don’t do any animal testing & they don’t even ask others to do on their behalf.



The Body Shop is certified by Humane Cosmetics Standards operated by BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection).



In June 2007 Reformation of chemical legislation into REACH (Regulation, Evaluation, Authorization, of Chemical).

They went 100% VEGETARIAN in 2007. The term “100% vegetarian” means that our products are free of any ingredients resulting from animal slaughter, such as gelatin or animal hair.



They don’t export their products to CHINA because their product registration rule requires animal testing.

Raise funds for marginalized “Children on edge” The Body Shop & UNICEF work for Stop Violence At Home. In 2006 Daisy soap was launched under the above campaign

It was initially under the title Trade-not Aid Created by founder Anita Roddick in 1987 with a small group-Teddy Exports in Southern India-supplier of footsie roller. They give the fare return to suppliers in return for natural ingredients & accessories such as cocoa bean, sesame oil, shea butter, marula oil, soy oil.

More than 25000 people benefit from this programme. The community Trade programme now involves supplier in more than 20 countries. 65% of products contain CT ingredients.

Anita &The Body Shop foundation provided grinding mills & nut cracking plants for extraction of shea butter in Ghana. In 1994 The Body Shop helped CT supplier of cocoa beans –KNAPA KOKOO in starting UK based chocolate company –THE DAY CHOCOLATE CO. (Now DIVINE chocolate co.)

Launching of a skin care range for mature skin for 50+ age group. Launched a global online community for women in their 50’s. “Pampering evening” in Finland. Social services in New Zealand

2001 with Greenpeace Int. it highlighted the importance of renewable energy in fight against global warming.  They have decided to become Carbon Neutral retailer by 2010

work on designing of the stores for increasing energy offsetting.  Wherever possible they make sure that energy they use don’t come from fossil fuels.  All new companies vehicles are hybrid models saving up to 30% of emission.  In 2001 stores in UK region switched to ecotricity.

They have changed plantation of palm oil with the help of NGO”s OXFAM & WWF. In 1993 they banned the PVC from packaging & products. They use as little as possible with no secondary packaging. They have enjoyed awards from both the Royal Society for the Protection of Animal and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for our best in class standards.

LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST… 



Launch of The Body Shop in INDIA in November 2006. Currently, it operates 22 stores across eight cities in India. The Body Shop is currently operating a chain of retail stores through franchisee arrangement with Planet Retail Holdings in the cities of Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai and Pune.
