Thursday 16 October – Youth Policy Day Chair: Paul Carling, Chair Douzelage International Education Committee 08.25 Meet at Culverhayes Car Park for Coach to Dorchester Youth & Community Centre (Natalie House Mob: 07746 727002) 09.30 Welcome by Paul Carling of Sherborne Douzelage 09.40 Presentation by Tom Corban, Head of Youth and Community Service, Dorset County Council British Government Policy – “Every Child Matters” and how this translates into Local Government policy. 10.15 Hilary Cox – Deputy Leader of Dorset CC: Long term strategic issues 10.45 Coffee 11.05 Youth Opportunities Fund – policy imperatives and Dorset CC experience – Simon FraizBrown 11.40 Youth Justice System – Clive Hawkins, Head of Youth Offending Team & Will Burnett, Dorset Police 12.30 Buffet Lunch at Youth Centre 13.45 Delegates visit Theme Stations manned by Dorset CC staff and local rapporteurs to compare their towns’ experiences in these subjects (3 towns at each station concurrently) 15.50 Tea 16.15 Plenary session - Reports from theme stations and discussion on ideas that arose 17.15

Discussion of needs and whether they are met 12.00 Conclusions drawn from the discussion 12.20 Youth Opportunities Fund: Case studies at working level - Simon Fraiz-Brown 12.45 Youth and Democracy: Youth Parliament & Sherborne Youth Forum – John Reynolds, Community Youth Service 13.30
