STOPPING THE WAR AGAINST DOLPHINS: WHAT CAN BE DONE?
The chilling and emotional story of THE COVE is likely to leave audiences wondering what ordinary people can do to help rescue the dolphins of Taiji from future slaughters and to preserve the wildness and environmental health of earth’s spectacular oceans, which sustain the lives of both dolphins and humans. As the film depicts, there are already many passionate and adventurous people engaged in social action on these issues, but those numbers need to grow in order to put more intensive pressure on the Japanese government and its allies on the International Whaling Commission. Some of the ways that people in the U.S. can make a difference include: Stopping Dolphin Slaughter Write letters to the Japanese embassy, asking them to shut down the Taiji dolphin hunts and to prohibit the further sale of mercury-contaminated dolphin meat. For more information see: www.savejapanesedolphins.org Write a letter to President Obama asking him to use the United States’ diplomatic power to end the killing of whales and dolphins for all commercial purposes Reduce demand for dolphin entertainment at marine parks, dolphinariums, swim-with-dolphin programs and resorts that feature dolphins Addressing Mercury Poisoning of Sea Life Eat only sustainable, non-polluted seafood. For a list of which seafood to buy and why see http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/seafoodwatch.aspx Support alternative fuels that will reduce our use of coal, a leading cause of mercury contamination of waterways Ask your Congressional representatives to support legislation that would mandate reductions in mercury emissions Conserving Our Oceans Learn more about the wild beauty of the ocean and our dependency on its health and complex web of life for human survival.
