Youth Using GPS/GIS for Community Mapping: A Five Step Process STEP 1: IDENTIFY... Youth interests, community issue, target data, available resources and potential partners.
STEP 2: COLLECT… Data using tools such as GPS, road maps, online databases (e.g. census bureau), data sheets, and community surveys.
STEP 3: MAP… Data using GIS software: Involves critical thinking and decisions such as which layers of data to show on different maps.
STEP 4: SHARE… Maps with audiences who share interest in issue. May involve youth presentations and/or sharing online.
STEP 5: ACT... By considering real world implications of the data and working with partner organizations to address community issues.
