TOWNSHIP COUNCIL

DAVID STAHL

September 15, 2008 Mayor William P. Neary Township of East Brunswick P.O. Box 1081 East Brunswick, NJ 08816 Re: Pathmark Parking Lot Dear Mayor Neary: I have been informed by some East Brunswick residents that they have received a notice from the owners of the parking area in front of the Pathmark/former Home Depot store that the commuter parking lot will be closed to commuters as of October 1, 2008. While I recognize that the area is private property and the property owner has been generous in allowing the commuters to park there in the past, I would ask you on behalf of the residents utilizing the parking area to request of the property owner that the commuters be permitted to park there through December 31, 2008. Our new parking facility is scheduled to open in early October, and one might reasonably expect some transition by the commuters to the new indoor facility. Additionally, there most likely will be a period of adjustment by the bus carrier, Suburban, as it must adjust to a large influx of commuters. This process will take time and it might be more orderly to allow a longer period of transition to smooth the process for all. In addition, I would imagine that many of the commuters utilizing the Pathmark lot have already purchased their October monthly pass for NJ Transit. By permitting the commuters some additional time to park at Pathmark, the Parking Utility and Suburban will be able to work through the period of adjustment and have the bus schedules operating at an effective schedule. The additional time would also permit the Pathmark commuters much valuable time to learn of the new bus alternatives that are available for them at the new TCC parking facility. Thank you for your consideration of the foregoing. Very truly yours,
