SQUEEZE Simple Injection Tool By Murat Karadag
The Aim The aim of Squeeze is enable diabetics to easily inject themselves. It is especially designed for children and adolescents so that they can use it with ease. Squeeze will allow even a five year old child to be able to inject himself with adult supervision. With the help of our colourful Squeeze, these children will be allowed to regain some fun and freedom. The clever design means that they do not see the needle. The optimal speed of application will minimise pain and deliver effective doses.
Squeeze Squeeze is an injection tool, around 4.5cm in diameter and less than 10cm in height. It is made of soft plastic, tactile and easy to apply. I have designed Squeeze in various different shapes, colours and patterns (see Fig.1) to appeal to adolescents and children. Through its fun and colourful designs Squeeze will give much needed fun and independence back into these little people’s lives.

How is it used? It is very simple to use. Insert the injection tube in to the Squeeze and turn clockwise (Fig 2). After it has been securely located it will Murat Karadag

automatically release the lid. Place the Squeeze where you would like to apply and then just squeeze it. Then just put the lid back on, turn it anti clockwise and release the empty tube. That is it - job done.
Fig. 2 How Does It Work? Simply by squeezing it, it will increase the inner pressure. This pressurised air will start the mechanism. The needle will start to move. It will enter the body with perfect depth, and complete the application. When finished, it will release the needle and the system will be reset back to the starting point. Pressurised air enters from the inlet hole H1 to the first room R1 (See Fig. 3 & Fig.4). Then the air enters the next chamber (R2) through hole H2. So high pressure air starts to push main cylinder C2 which is connected to the needle by a screw. When it reaches to the end point air will continue its journey and it will enter next chamber R3 by hole H3. So central cylinder C3 will start to move and will start to push handle of needle and perform the injection. When it reaches the end point of its route so hole H4 will open and air will enter the next chamber R4. In this chamber, air will push up the little cylinder C1 and will change the direction of the high pressure air which will fill up the next chamber R1`. In addition, high pressure air will flow to the chamber R5 through hole H5. This will move the main cylinder C2 up and will open a new hole H6 so air can flow from chamber R7 through chamber R6 and via hole H7 it will then start to push the central cylinder C3 up. Now you can close the unit safely by replacing the lid. H8, H9 and H10 are air outlets which are connected to open air.
