SQ3R This strategy provides concrete steps for interacting with information that results in high levels of comprehension. This combines teacher-directed learning with self-directed learning. STEPS: 1.Survey: Teacher leads students in a survey of the reading selection. Pay attention to headings, subheadings, topic sentences, and highlighted words. 2.Question: Students build a question for each heading and subheading in the text, to be answered during step three. 3.Read: Students read the selection carefully, keeping questions in mind as they read. 4.Recite: Students “recite” answers in a group discussion or by writing them down. “Restating” thought reinforces learning. 5.
Review: Students review all of their spoken or written answers.
