SPECIAL NOTES

All Orientation Sessions are Mandatory for Students

SPECIAL NOTES Orientation Information Table Student Union, Ballroom Lobby Throughout Orientation, we will have the Orientation Information Table available to answer your questions. While you will be escorted to all sessions, if you get lost or have any concerns, please let us help you. Orientation Nametags You must wear your Orientation nametag at all times during the program. At the end of the session, during check-out, you will return the plastic holder. Lost nametag holders will cost you $1.00 at check-out. You will get to keep the lanyard. Meal Cards You will receive a meal card to be used today at lunch in the Cane Break Café. This card needs to be returned at check-out. The replacement cost for a lost card is $5.00. Water We will be doing a lot of walking today. Please keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Orientation Bags Everyone’s bag looks exactly the same. Please make sure to mark your bag with your name, and please do not put anything valuable in your bag (money, IPods, etc.) If you misplace your bag, please contact a member of our staff. Orientation Lost & Found We will have an Orientation Lost & Found at the Orientation Information Table. If you find a lost object, please drop it off. The Office of Orientation is not responsible for items you misplace during your stay.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM

Freshman Math Placement Exam Maxim Doucet Hall, Room 201 Freshman students wishing to take the Math Placement Exam should arrive with a Photo Identification. Test results will be available by afternoon advising.

8:30 AM – 9:15 AM

Student Check-In Student Union, Ballroom Students should be sure to complete the following, if necessary: • Change your major: if you have decided to change your major, please do so today at the Academic Success Center table. You will receive academic advising based on the major you supply today. • Regenerate your password: if you have lost your password for ULink, please regenerate it today. You will need it during course registration. • Immunization Records: if you need to turn in your Immunization Records, please do so at the Orientation Information Table. • Honors Program: Freshman students with an ACT composite of 26+ or Transfer Students with a 3.0 GPA at the freshman level (<30 credit hours) or a 3.2 GPA at the sophomore level (30+ credit hours) interested in joining the Honors program should visit the Honors Program table.

8:30 AM – 9:15 AM

Cajun Card Photos Student Union, Room 130 Students should take the yellow form provided at check-in and a photo ID to the Cajun Card Office to get their photo taken. You will receive your Cajun Card at check-out this afternoon

9:15 AM – 9:45 AM

Welcome to University of Louisiana at Lafayette Student Union, Ballroom Students and Parents will be welcomed to the university by members of our Student Orientation Staff, university administration, and provided an overview of the day’s schedule of events.

9:55 AM – 10:30 AM

College Town Hall Meetings Various Campus Locations Students will be escorted to their College Town Hall Meeting by members of the Student Orientation Staff.

10:30 AM – 11:00 AM

Utilizing ULink & other Technology Resources Various Campus Locations Student Orientation Staff will discuss university technology resources, including ULink, campus computer labs, & registering for classes online.

11:00 AM – 11:45 AM

Student Discussion Groups & Meetings Various Campus Locations This will be your opportunity to meet with members of our campus staff to discuss transition issues facing you specifically. Use the guide below to determine which meeting you should attend.



Freshman Discussion Groups Adult Freshmen (21+) Students Transfer Students

12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

Honors Student Orientation Meeting & Lunch Judice-Rickels Hall, Room 104 Students accepted into the Honors Program should attend this meeting & lunch with members of the Honors Program staff.

11:45 AM – 12:30 PM

Lunch Cane Brake Café Enjoy lunch in our Cane Brake Café. Please use the meal card provided today at check-in.

11:45 AM – 12:30 PM

Campus Resources Fair & Student Activities Mart Student Union, 1st Floor Students & Parents are encouraged to visit with representatives from our many campus offices to learn more about the services they offer.

12:30 PM – 1:00 PM

Student Success Information Sessions Please select one of the Interest Sessions below to attend. Following the Interest Session, please return to the Ballroom to be dismissed to afternoon Academic Advising (Freshman) or to check-out for the day (Transfer Students & Adult Learners).



Money Matters Student Union, Ballroom This session is required for all TOPS Recipients. It covers important information on the TOPS program, as well as other information on Financial Aid.



Campus Involvement: Student Organizations & Greek Life Student Union, Bayou Bijou Campus involvement is critically important to your success as a student. Come learn about the many ways to be involved through our 150+ student organizations or through one of our 20 sororities and fraternities.

Strategies for Academic Success Student Union, Bastille Room (2nd Floor) Join the Junior Division Counselors to explore how to make the most of your academic experience. How will you adjust to the demands of college? How can you successfully manage your time, especially if you are working? What resources are available to help you maximize your chances for academic success? Join us for the answers to these questions and more!



Career Planning for Success Student Union, Evangeline Room (2nd Floor) Learn how the Career Counseling Center and Career Services can help you with all aspects of your career journey throughout your years at UL Lafayette. Let us guide you with services such as information on majors, career testing, career planning and job seeking strategies for your successful future.

Freshmen & Transfer Student Academic Advising & Course Registration Dismissal, Student Union, Ballroom Students will be escorted to their advising location by members of our Student Orientation Staff. After you have seen your advisor, please go to the computer lab to register for classes based on the locations listed below.

Campus Tour Departs Student Union, Orientation Information Table Students who want to participate in a guided campus tour can meet with members of our Student Orientation Staff. This tour will provide an overview of the physical space on campus and may assist you with locating your classes following registration.

1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Orientation Check-Out Student Union, Ballroom Lobby All students must return to check-out of Orientation. Please present the following at check out: • Your meal card • Your plastic nametag holder



You will receive your Cajun Card at check out. This is also a great chance to get any last minute questions answered. Don’t forget to pay your tuition and fees no later than January 5, 2010 in order to secure your classes.

OPTIONAL AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES Financial Aid Guillory Hall, 1:00 – 3:00 PM Students who have applied for Financial Aid should check the status of their Financial Aid Package before leaving campus. Scholarships Office Martin Hall, Room 260 Students who have received or will be receiving any scholarships from the university or external sources should visit the Scholarships Office to ensure that all their information is on file and verify requirements for maintaining their scholarships. Services for Students with Disabilities Conference Center, Room 126 If you have a documented disability or will need assistance when you come to campus, be sure to stop by the Office of Disibility Services. Housing Questions University Union, Room 240 If you have questions about your housing options, on-campus housing, or wish to take a tour of our on-campus housing facilities, please visit the UL Department of Housing to speak to a member of their staff. University Bookstore We encourage all Orientation participants to visit our University Bookstore for all your official Ragin’ Cajun gear, to buy their textbooks, and to check out their other merchandise. Use the coupon located in your Orientation bag for a great discount!
