Lesson 2.4

Solving for a Variable Main Goal: We want to move the variables all to one side and the constants all to the other. Ex: We would like to turn something like 3x+4=13

into

x=3

How do we do this? We want to keep our equation balanced at all

times In other words, we want to make sure we do the same operation on both sides of the equation: Ex:

x+3= 5

−3 −3 x=2

Example

5 x − 7 = 23 +7 +7 5 x = 30 ÷5 ÷5 x=6
